MEGA MAHARISHI~!

Recommended Posts

Some background on this gimmick:

Bagwan Shri Rashnish and his followers basically took over a small town in Oregon, and started controling the region. Bagwan was treated as if he were "the enlightened one" by his followers, who lavished him with gifts, and they all lived in a commune together. This was in sharp contrast to the quiet, simple loggers who lived in the region. The true locals HATED the Bagwan and wanted him removed. It took a while before he left... and he left without a trace.

Wiskowski adopted the gimmick of the Bagwan, calling himself Mega Maharishi. He just worked the same mannerisms and mindset... and people wanted to string him up. He wore a red robe and a little cap, and would pray before every match, then blessed everybody around him.

The Mega (as he was also called) was downright funny, but the gimmick had a limited shelf life. When the Bagwan ceased to be a threat, Mega seemed like old news.

Of course, right after this run, Wiskowski took another politically-motivated role as the hated Col. DeBeers in the AWA.

The Mega makes a difference, we know that. :)

It's funny, people bitch about tag teams being thrown together for no reason today ... yet, even back then random pairings like a "Playboy" and a spiritual guru tagging up weren't complained about.

I've always been a bit of a mark for Col Debeers gimmick, so it's pretty sweet to see Wiskowski in another random gimmick.

I know, both of those facts were in the interview ... what I meant was that people were complaining about teams like Haas & Rico getting thrown together in today's WWE, saying that they don't have anything in common and thus shouldn't be a team. But, if you go back a few decades you see the exact same thing happening; regardless of the fact that Rose & Wiskowski were former tag champs, having a self-proclaimed Playboy & a guru team up is pretty non-sensical.
