Guest Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 Hi. Im becoming very interest in learning more on the whole situation in the Mideast since the attacks. I am often very confused following the coverage so can anyone give me any good sites that have all the recent dvelopments covered with background info? Thanks. Also one quick question...what is the basis of the Arab attacks on Isreal? I thought it was that they want the Palestinians to have their own country. But have the Palestinians ever had its own country?
Guest big Dante Cruz Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 Yes, Palestine was a real country. Israel was actually created by the British whenever the Zionist movement really picked up after World War 2 (the movement saying the Jews need a homeland, and they took the land in the Middle East they had control of and made Israel for the Jews, who immigrated like crazy.
Guest Some Guy Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 Palestine was annexed by the british after WWI, beginning in the late 1800s the Zionist movement started and really picked up steam after the Holocaust. Manakam Bagen (sp?) organized terrorist attacks on the British and Britian created Israel, as a Jewish State in 1948. Bagen went on to become PM of Israel and I think he won a Nobel Peace Prize. The history of anti-semitism in the Arab world runs back virtually to the dawn of time, the Palestians supported Hitler's war cause BTW, and that really heated up when the Jews moved into "their" land (I say "their" because there were already many Jews who lived there before 1948). So Egypt, Palestians, and other Arab countries lauched a series of attacks against Israel, all of which won easily by Israel, they beat Egypt in 6 days. In 1978, Jimmy Carter decided to pay the Iraelis to stop killing the Egyptians, the Camp David Accords were signed. As a result Israle was to be paid $5 billion and Egypt $3 billion a year in aid by the US (I'm not postive on the numbers, but I think they're right). Israel and Egypt's aid money has since been lowered considerably. (I think Israel gets $3 billion now) There is also a great degree of jealousy from the Arab world to the Israelis because the "infidel Zionists" have moved into the 21st century and succeeded while much of the Arab world lives in the time of the Crusades, only with better weapons.
Guest Risk Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 You'd think they would hate Christians more(though, IMO, Catholisism isn't a Christian religion)because of the Crusades.
Guest TheMikeSC Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 <<<You'd think they would hate Christians more(though, IMO, Catholisism isn't a Christian religion)because of the Crusades.>>> Don't assume that Palestinians are fond of Christians. Muslims HATE Christians ALMOST as much as they hate Jews. -=Mike ...I'm not sure they could hate ANYBODY more than they hate Jews.
Guest Some Guy Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Have you noticed the one common trend with the Palestians is hate? Well hate and violence, I wouldn't want to short change them.
Guest Risk Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Didn't a lot of Christianity have its roots in Palestine? Weird. BTW, The Onion has a good article on this, about a flood in the Middle East. Read it.
