Just saw the umpteenth replay of the Mens' 4x200m free relay, it breaks my heart every time, I can't stop thinking Thorpey's gonna grab Keller on the line each time I see it. 13 hundredths of a second over 4 people and 800 meters. Fuck....

 

Loving the beach volleyball right now, whoever thought of adding bikini-clad dancing girls to a sport where the chicks' event already includes a rule regulating a maximum amount of material for uniforms is a genius. It just happens to be particularly entertaining sport to watch regardless also. I can't believe the lack of crowds for it, you couldn't get a ticket to the beach volleyball in Sydney, it was insanely popular, Bondi was a total shitfight.

The Americans got an asskicking today in Judo.

 

Considering the girl we had today was 17.. yep.. it was a whupping.

 

The Judo commentators said that Greece's new national sport was Judo after they had a gold medalist.

Here's my thoughts for today:

 

-During that Lithuania-Puerto Rico game, some Lithuanian fan would blow an air horn anytime Puerto Rico touched the ball. I was at home, and I wanted to murder him. I can't imagine how annoying it was sitting in the arena.

 

-Larry Brown has to play Lebron more. And what is Emeka even doing on the team? Brown never plays rookies. Couldn't that spot have gone to someone who had a chance of contributing? A.I. is my hero. Starbury should not be allowed to shoot ever. Duncan always looks like he's apologizing for something.

 

-I can't believe I'm actually starting to hate Ian Thorpe. I never thought I'd care about swimming that much. I hate him, though.

Ian Thorpe is very annoying when being interviewed. I personally cant stand listening to him talk. Still the best swimmer in history though, no doubts about that.

The swimming relay was pretty amazing. Everybody should see the replay on that.

 

Agreed on Thorpe. I loved seeing him come just 11/100th's or whatever of a second away from winning.

 

Edit: And is it just me or did no channel (not even MSNBC or Bravo) show the Fencing finals? (We won the gold)

Yeah, I haven't really heard him being interviewed much, but something strikes me about him that he's a real dick.

 

And I've seen people on this website say he's basically the Michael Jordan of Australia.

 

I wanted to see Phelps beat him at Thorpe's signature race, but he didn't. Although...I've heard Thorpe totally dropped out of one of the other races because Phelps beat him so bad at the last World Championships . I could be getting that wrong, though. You guys would probably know better than me.

 

Thorpe's probably the best, but I think they'll have at least one more Olympics to duke it out.

 

As for now, I look forward to not hearing the name Ian Thorpe for another four years.

Phelps beat Thorpe in the 200 IM at the Worlds. An event which I don't think Thorpe had ever actually raced in at International level. He was pretty much just doing it for fun but ended up taking Silver. I might add that Phelps doesn't compete in Thorpe's signature event, the 400m. He hasn't been beaten in that event since he was 15. The 200m is his 2nd event as he has a long-running rivalry with Van Den Hoogenband in that event.

 

I can't understand why people hate Thorpey so much, he's so humble and unassuming, he's never once bragged or been showy about being the best swimmer in the world, it just seems that there is nothing you can do to make people really like you when you're the best.

Actually, a video package on NBC featuring Thorpe's celebrity status in Australia leading up to the fall at the Olympic trials showed a clip of Undercover Angels, so at least I get the reference.

I never watched that garbage, nor paid any real attention to it. Didn't that involve him supposedly sending out 3 chicks on charity missions?? I'm 100% confident he didn't invent that crap. I don't give a shit what he does with his time outside of the pool. In my eyes he is a swimmer and anything he says outside of that capacity is totally irrelevant to me.

Wow. This is amazing. US had a 5-1 lead on Canada in women's water polo in the 4th quarter, and they came back to win 6-5.

 

Talk about choking.
