Guest Harry, Archie and Gus

1. WWF Retro TV Compilation: WWF at MSG 12/79 and Maple Leaf Wrestling Weeklies

2. Memphis Wrestling 1985-1986 (John McAdam J1470)

TAPE # J1470: MEMPHIS WRESTLING FROM 1985 - 1986:

BILL DUNDEE gives promoter Eddie Marlin a beating. Marlin then orders Dundee to wrestle him blindfolded, with one arm tied behind his back.

*BILL DUNDEE v KOKO WARE- Dutch Mantell and The Maharishi help Dundee beat up Koko.

SHERRI MARTEL repackages Tom Prichard and Pat Rose as...THE HEAVENLY BODIES!!

THE FANTASTICS v DUTCH MANTELL & TONY FALK- how can the Fantastics wrestle in the same territory as the Fabulous Ones, both as babyface teams?

RIC FLAIR v KOKO WARE- same as A475, but this is the entire match.

THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS (Sting & Warrior) turn heel, running down Lawler and Hickerson. Phil correctly points out that they can't wrestle, all they do is shoot steroids.

PHIL HICKERSON v JIM HELLWIG (Warrior)- Steve Borden (Sting) runs in for the DQ.

CLIPS OF STING & WARRIOR "breaking" Phil Hickerson's arm with the ring bell.

DUTCH MANTELL v RICK CASEY- Casey was better known as Wendell Cooley. Bill Dundee runs in and hangs Casey from the ropes with Mantell's bullwhip!

TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS, Bill Dundee rolls pennies to the crowd at the TV studio. Koko Ware objects, so Dundee slams the bag of pennies across his head!

MIDNIGHT EXPRESS v FABULOUS ONES- funny to see Lane vs Cornette's Midnights!

LANCE RUSSELL AND DAVE BROWN are interviewed on the "Jerry Lawler Show".

STING & WARRIOR debut their "Blade Runners" gimmick, looking like punk rock bodybuilders.

*JERRY LAWLER v BILL DUNDEE- Lawler agrees to leave Memphis if he loses, and Dundee puts up his and his wife's hair. The then-unthinkable happens, as Lawler loses. 4 1/4 ***.

BILL DUNDEE and all the heels have a party celebrating Lawler's exit from Memphis.

WMC TV ANNOUNCES their "Dream Date with the Fantastics" contest. Buddy Landell objects, and demands that he be honored with a dream date contest. Great, of course.

*THE FANTASTICS v THE SHEEPHERDERS- Tommy & Bobby win the tag titles.

J.D. COSTELLO intros The Mod Squad. J.D. is funny, but very much a Cornette impersonator.

JERRY JARRETT announces his retirement, citing an eye injury and his advanced age.

BUDDY LANDELL costs Dutch Mantell a match and Mantell is hot! Landell is recociliatory toward Dutch to his face, but Buddy cocks his fists when Mantell's back is turned!

BUDDY LANDELL asks Bill Dundee to disassociate himself from that "drunk, tobacco spittin' redneck", Mantell. That is, until Dutch shows up- then it's "Hey, Dutch, you're my pal, I love ya"!! Lance Russell rats Buddy out, and it ends up in a brawl, with Dundee siding with Budro, and Dutch getting a beating. Landell is an incredible instigator here- great angle.

GREAT INTERVIEW with Dutch Mantell, explaining his side of the feud. Dutch is fantastic here.

BILL DUNDEE AND BUDDY LANDELL win a squash. They continue to pound their opponents, but also the referee- a skinny kid, fresh out of high school named Jeff Jarrett. Jerry Jarrett then runs in- Bill and Buddy start gouging his bad eye!

EDDIE MARLIN, outraged over what just happened, announces that he's lifting Lawler's suspension, and that Lawler will return to team with Dutch vs Buddy and Bill.

LANCE RUSSELL then refuses to interview Dundee, who do a great CRAZY promo.

*JERRY LAWLER & DUTCH MANTELL v BILL DUNDEE & BUDDY LANDELL- Lawler and Dutch pound away at Dundee's eye- next week on television, it's swollen shut (not shown).

JEFF JARRETT does an interview, announcing his intentions to become a wrestler. Jeff reads a poem- not a good babyfce move- but does a hell of a promo, considering his age and experience.

*JERRY LAWLER & DUTCH MANTELL v BILL DUNDEE & BUDDY LANDELL- Jeff Jarrett i the ref, and Dundee punches him out. Jackie Fargo then runs in and pops Dundee.

BILL DUNDEE SLAPS LANCE RUSSELL IN THE FACE DURING AN INTERVIEW!!!

*TEXAS DEATH MATCH: JERRY LAWLER & DUTCH MANTELL v BILL DUNDEE & BUDDY LANDELL- highlights of a one-hour, 26 fall, classic, 5 *** match.

BILL DUNDEE AND BUDDY LANDELL take over the WMC studio, renaming the wrestling hour "The Bill and Buddy Show". I'm out of expletives, so I'll describe this as phenomenal. Bill and Buddy run the show and do commentary for about 15 minutes, until Lawler and Mantell destroy the set with chairs, and the four engage in a wild brawl. A MUST, MUST SEE!!

THIS IS ONE OF THE TWO OR THREE BEST TAPES IN MY COLLECTION. The Lawler v Dundee feud is one of the best of all time, and Dundee is an incredible- if more people saw this stuff he'd be considered one of the best heels ever. 6 hours, very good video.

3. Memphis Wrestling Jan.-Apr. 1987 (John McAdam J1471)

TAPE # J1471: MEMPHIS WRESTLING FROM JANUARY - APRIL 1987:

*NOTE: almost all matches are joined in progress or clips from the Mid-South Coliseum

JERRY LAWLER v TOMMY RICH- the winner is to get a shot vs AWA champ Nick Bockwinkel. Babyface Austin Idol comes to ringside and challenges the winner to wrestle him that night for the title shot. Lawler refuses, and Idol is hot about it.

AUSTIN IDOL decks Jerry Lawler right before the match vs Bockwinkel starts- and the feud is on!

SHEEPHERDERS v FABULOUS ONES in a wild, unscheduled brawl that spills into the parking lot.

JERRY LAWLER v TOMMY RICH- Lawler is DQed for thorwing fire at Rich, immediately followed by:

JERRY LAWLER v AUSTIN IDOL- Rich and Idol each grab one of Lawler's legs, and pull his, uh...testicular area into the ring post. Lawler is "seriously injured" and is taken out via ambulance- great angle.

SHEEPHERDERS v PAT TANAKA & PAUL DIAMOND

SHEEPHERDERS v FABULOUS ONES- a wild one.

JEFF JARRETT & BILLY TRAVIS put Dowtown Bruno's face in a cake- Bruno was really good here (what happened?)

SHEEPHERDERS v FABULOUS ONES- another crazy brawl.

AUSTIN IDOL v SOULTRAIN JONES (aka Virgil)- finals of tournament for the Southern title, vacated by Jerry Lawler. Tommy Rich interferes, and Idol is the new champ.

NO DQ: SHEEPHERDERS v FABULOUS ONES

PENALTY BOX MATCH: SHEEPHERDERS v FABULOUS ONES- this was a really good, bloody feud.

JERRY LAWLER & NICK BOCKWINKEL v AUSTIN IDOL & TOMMY RICH- Bockwinkel offers his services to help Lawler gain some revenge. Rich gets a "broken hand" in the fracas.

BARBED WIRE MATCH: SHEEPHERDERS v FABULOUS ONES- another bloody brawl.

JERRY LAWLER & NICK BOCKWINKEL v AUSTIN IDOL & LORD HUMONGUS (now Psycho Sid)- Lawler & Bockwinkel get the win, but they have a falling out. Nick walks off, and Lawler is doubleteamed by the heels.

BAM BAM BIGELOW VIDEO- Bigelow is Lawler's new partner

FORMER PARTNERS Jeff Jarrett and Pat Tanaka argue on TV, as Pat accuses Jeff of "dumping" him.

JEFF JARRETT & BILLY TRAVIS v BUBBA & GOLIATH, where the loser of the fall leaves Memphis- Pat Tanaka turns heel and costs Travis the fall, and Travis has to leave.

JEFF JARRETT attacks Pat Tanaka during a squash.

JERRY LAWLER & BAM BAM BIGELOW v AUSTIN IDOL & TOMMY RICH- Bigeow is awesome here as an out of control babyface madman. What's shown is worth 4 ***.

JEFF JARRETT v PAT TANAKA- as far as wrestling action goes, this was easily the best U.S. feud of 1987. Both Jeff and Pat were two of the best workers in the world at this point.

JEFF JARRETT introduces his new partner, B.T. Express- it's obviuosly Billy Travis under a mask, and the heels go nuts.

JERRY LAWLER & BAM BAM BIGELOW v AUSTIN IDOL & TOMMY RICH- another wild, bloody, all-action brawl.

PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY debuts as Humongus manager.

JERRY LAWLER & BAM BAM BIGELOW v AUSTIN IDOL & TOMMY RICH- it's supposed to be two singles matches going on at once, but you'd never know. Idol uses a blackjack to bludgeon Bigelow, then Rich handcuffs Bam Bam to the ropes. The heels then put a noose around Lawler's neck. Bigelow escapes, and chases the heels through the crowd and into the dressing room- funny as the fans RUN FOR THEIR LIVES when Bigelow is coming their way- he was that over as a lunatic!

TEXAS DEATH MATCH: JERRY LAWLER & BAM BAM BIGELOW v AUSTIN IDOL & TOMMY RICH- Lawler and Bigelow injure Rich the same way Lawler was injured- by posting him! Lawler is fined, but Bigelow refuses to pay his fine, so he's gone. Too bad- he was really awesome here.

JEFF JARRETT & BILLY TRAVIS v PAT TANAKA & BOY TONY- great when it's Jarrett v Tanaka.

ROCKY JOHNSON & SOULTRAIN JONES object to Bubba and Goliath's racist comments, so they break some wooden boards over their heads.

**I love this tape. This was the first wrestling I ever started trading for, so it has a special place in my heart. But after watching it again, I realized just how great some of this action is, sentimental or not. The Lawler v Idol & Rich feud, in my opinion, is the greatest of all time. Lawler and Idol are two of the best interviews ever (lots of them on this tape), and Rich has to be seen to be beleived. 4 hours, very good video.
