Guest Report post Posted April 29, 2002 In realtiy, 1994 wasn't that a good year for wrestling. The WWF steroid trials, Hulk Hogan signing with WCW, Stone Cold getting screwed by Eric Bischoff. But yet, 1994 did have it's high points besides Wrestlemania X: The Birth of Extreme Championship Wrestling Sting vs. Vader ***** match at Slamboree 1994: A Legends Reunion Ric Flair vs. Vader at Superbrawl IV Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund at Survivor Series 1994 for the WWF Title Shawn Micheals begins his World Title push Bret vs. Owen at Summerslam for the WWF Title in a Steel Cage That's mine, what's yours? Guest Tony149 Report post Posted April 29, 2002 1994 wasn't all that bad. At least for WCW. They (WCW) started off 1994 with a bang. They had some good TV. Superbrawl, Spring Stampede & Slamboree were all good/great PPV's. Then Hogan signs and everything went to hell. Flair turns heel. Sting gets pushed down and becomes one of Hogan's little buddies (Much like what happened to The Rock). Hogan brings in some of his WWF buddies in ie. Beefcake, Duggan, etc. We get Hogan vs. The Butcher (Beefcake) for the WCW Title at what's supposed to be WCW's biggest PPV of the year or their WrestleMania. Which is horrible. Savage jumps to WCW. HHH was wrestling for WCW too. The WWF didn't have that great of a year, but nowhere near as bad as 1995. Of course Owen/Bret's match at WM X. And Vince avoiding prison. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted April 30, 2002 Topic: Best of 1994, And don't you dare say micheals/ramone! Ok, I'll say Michaels/Ramon,or how about HBK/Razor, maybe Shawn/Scott, possibly The Show Stoppa/Diamond Studd, or was it The Headliner, the Main Event, The Icon that can still go (although not anymore)/The Bad Guy. Whatever, my favorite match was Shawn/Razor, ladder match at Mania 10.
Guest Caliban Report post Posted April 30, 2002 There's a lot of cool stuff from 1994... Wrestlemania X - the first Wrestlemania that seemed to pay homage to it's history, and the whole deal from MSG was really cool. Loved the opening package to this - one of the first? Loved the card too. We all know the story there. King of the Ring - Owen winning, Art Donovan's terrible commentary Survivor Series - I remember liking the elimination matches, especially the Teamsters! Guest areacode212 Report post Posted April 30, 2002 I liked 1994 a lot at the time. The WWF was starting to focus on guys like Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels (despite the Diesel push). Actually, Diesel was pretty cool back then--not a great worker, but just "cool", partly because of his association with Michaels. Plus, this was before all the backstage shit started coming out, so we smarks were still innocent about the ways of the Clique. Plus, 1994 featured one of my all-time favorite feuds--Bret Hart vs. "Mister" Bob Backlund. I believe Backlund (as "the REAL WWF champion") ended Undertaker's winning streak in the "Best Gimmick" category of the RSP-W Awards in this year. Too bad it was the WWF's worst-ever year at the box office.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted May 1, 2002 Every Bret vs. Owen match was great. Nasty Boys vs. Maxx Payne & Cactus Jack from Spring Stampede. Flair vs. Steamboat from Spring Stampede (and on WCW TV in a rematch) Sting vs. Flair from the June/July Clash Sting vs. Vader from Slamboree was ok, but not their best Nasty Boys vs. Kevin Sullivan & Cactus Jack from Slamboree. Wait, did I just admit to 2 Nasty Boy matches being good? Austin vs. Steamboat from BATB and Clash. Bret vs. Diesel from KOTR Bret vs. Backlund from Surv. Series was good too... And I'm spent. Guest Tony149 Report post Posted May 2, 2002 Remember guys, this thread is supposed to talk about what happened in wrestling that year ie. Vince getting in trouble with the feds about steriods, etc. Not to name favorite matches of that year. By the way, everybody check out the One & Only Favorite Old School Matches thread, and post your favorite matches from 1985 & 1986. Every few days you will be asked to name your favorite matches from a certain year.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 2, 2002 I thought this thread was to name our favorite matches and angles of the year?
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted May 2, 2002 I thought this thread was to name our favorite matches and angles of the year? The threads from '86-'93 were, but I got some complaints about there being too many of these threads, so I create the One & Only thread to keep these from popping up every few days. This thread should of been called "The Year of 1994" like I said in the "Best of 1993" thread. You can talk about your favorite angles and wrestling news happenings from that year, but not favorite matches. Go to the One & Only thread pinned to the top of this folder.
