Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 Tonight I attended a Wrestling Extreme Overload (North American Championship Wrestling) TV taping in Walhalla, SC with my father, and it was something of an interesting time. It wasn't the best show ever, but it was ok. The biggest thing though was a few of the random things that I saw, and a few things that happened. We got there at about 6:00PM, and we didn't leave untill around 12:00AM. Rick Steiner was advertised to be at the show, but he either just pulled a no-show or something came up which kept him from being there. Either way, it pissed me off when I realized he wouldn't be there at all. I couldn't be too upset though, as I won the tickets, so this didn't cost me anything at all. When I got there, I didn't expect much at all from this show. I thought it would be something that almost no one would go to, and would be very poorly produced. Instead, we get there and it's a mad house. I couldn't believe how many people were there, hundreds of people filled the gym. While we were in the lobby, they had a few tables set up with items that you can buy, you know the deal. I'm standing there going from table to table, not paying attention to who is at the tables, and I realize that Lash LeRoux is standing there. So, I meet him and he's very cool. He was as nice as he could be, and seemed to be really enjoying talking to everyone. I go to the next table, and the guy sitting there puts his hand up to shake my hand, and goes "Hi, I'm Ricky Morton". I obviously know who he is when I see him, but I didn't know they would all be out here. I talked to him for a while, and he was even nicer than LeRoux. Later on, as I'm standing at a different table looking at some wrestling books, Morton sneaks up on me and grabs me and goes "Are you going to actually buy one of those books or are you going to just look at em here?". We both have a laugh, pretend like we are going to fight, then shake hands and just laugh and talk some more. Then I realize that Tracy Smothers is standing right next to Morton, so I meet him and chat for a while, and again he is very nice like the others. I ended up buying the book Pure Dynamite for $7, so that was cool as well. Then, we get to Ole Anderson. I've never met Ole before, but over the years I've talked to people who have both met him, and know him personally, and everyone has told me that that he's a bitter, sad, jerk of an old man. I didn't doubt it, but I discovered that for myself tonight. He looked as if he'd rather be dead than to be there, and he was rude to everyone. He was selling his book for $20 each, and he would say to people "Are you going to buy the fucking book or not? If not, then get outta here!", and he was just moving all weird, raising his voice, and insulting everyone I saw that met him. So yeah, Ole Anderson is a very bitter asshole now. I didn't even bother waiting to meet the guy. After seeing how he was doing, I just walked to my seat and ignored him. The show itself wasn't that great in terms of in ring action, but it was alright. The world champ, Dru D'Lite just sucked, and sucked hard. He had a HORRIBLE match with some guy in a horrible ninja mask, but finally won. After that, Jamal (Yes, Jamal from 3 Minute Warning) came out, and just destroyed D'Lite. Everyone was booing it, but I loved it. He did all of his main moves, and looked very good in the process. He was feeding off of the crowd better than most guys I see on WWE TV do, he looked like a mega star in there with that twat. Ricky Morton came down to help D'Lite, but he was destroyed also, getting various high impact moves done to him. Then it got odd. Later in the night, D'Lite came out, and Jamal destroyed him, Morton came out again...but got destroyed again. Then it happened again, then AGAIN. They made their champ look like the biggest bitch ever. Buchanan looked very good himself, and defeated someone early in the show, but later in the night he turned heel to joion up with Jamal...and yes, destroyed D'Lite and Morton...again. Then another tag team, as heels were out and had a match. Then, not too long after that they came out with USA stuff, like a flag and a hat, and turned face to fight another heel team. It seemed odd, and this was when I realized that a few guys just didn't show up or something, so they had to make do. I also think they did two tapings back to back, as almost everyone wrestled twice. The main event was a battle royal, the type that I've never seen before. The match consisted of a handfull of faces (including LeRoux and Tim Horner), the heel tag team The Turbanators (who previous wrestled two times earlier in the night), and then THREE LOCAL GUYS. One was the high school wrestling coach, and the other two...I'm not sure who they were. These people obviouly had no training in pro wrestling, so this match was absolutely funny as hell. The three locals were trying to do different things, but they acted like they were scared as hell to hit the other guys hard at all. They would just barely touch the bad guys, but the heels were forced to sell the offense. At one point near the end of this "match", the three local guys were in there and were trying to toss Tim Horner over the top rope and he yelled out "STOP, JUST STOP", and it freaked them out. He threw his hands up in the air, and just walked over the top rope himself, as if to say "like hell I'm going to trust my saftey in the hands of these morons". It was just great, I wish I had a video of it to show everyone here. The three locals ended up "tossing" everyone over the top ropes, and were declared the tri-winners of the match, ending the show. Another funny thing was that the young daughter, looked like she was 8-11, of one of the refs was sitting right behind me. He was going balistic yelling at the heels, and when the ref in one matct (not her father) had his back turned as the heels were doing some cheating, she yells out over everyone "PUT MY FATHER IN THERE TO BE THE REF, HE ISN'T BLIND LIKE THIS ONE!!!!". Ah yes, you just have to love these little indie shows, I have so much fun at them every time I go. I'm serious about Jamal looking good, VERY good. His movements in the ring, his interactions with the crowd, he was very impressive. I also enjoyed seeing Bull Buchanan. He did one move where he took his opponents arm, and then walked the ropes with it like Taker, but instead of jumping off hitting the arm, he held it, then did a leaping blockbuster type of move off of the middle of the top of the ropes. It just looked awesome, and I marked out for it big time. Tim Horner and Scott Powers had one of the worst matches ever also. It went to a 10 or 15 minute time limit draw, and I wanted to just beat someone senseless the match sucked so bad. Tracey Smothers looked alright in his match, but nothing like he used to be. The same goes for Ricky Morton. Dru D'Lite, he's a bitch and a half though, they made him out to look like the biggest joke ever. Any way, just thought I'd share a few ramdom things about my night, heh. I might be able to post some pictures later, just for the hell of it. Sincerely, ...Downhome...
