What are the best horror movies?  You decide, only no sequels allowed.  My picks are, in no order...

Friday The 13th

Psycho

Halloween

Scream

Why can't Evil Dead 2 be included? It's just as good as the original and depending on who you ask it's better then the original.

Also you can't use the "it's not a horror movie because of the comedy factor" reasoning...because you included Scream.

Ok now a quick run down of some of my favorites which i consider some of the best horror movies. Not including any old classic since i can't remember enough right now and i don't want to forget one.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Dawn of the Dead(i don't label this as a sequel it could've been a stand alone movie)

Night of the Living Dead(b&w)

Carnival of Souls(original)

Suspiria

The Exorcist

Evil Dead II(i already said why this should count)

Halloween

Hellraiser

Nightmare on Elm Street

In The Mouth Of Madness

Phantasm

The Abominable Dr. Phibes

Theater of Blood

Return of the Living Dead(it's not technically a sequel)

Candyman(i liked it so sue me besides Tony Todd rules)

Suspiria

Night of the Living Dead

The Shining

Halloween

The Thing

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (yes, it is supposed to be spelled like that, watch the opening credits to the movie and see)

Re-Animator

The Wicker Man

Witchfinder General

The Haunting (1964 version, not the remake shit)

The Exorcist

The Hills Have Eyes

Anguish

The Evil Dead

In the Mouth of Madness

I'm tempted to say Prince of Darkness, but I haven't seen it in a long time.

The Horror of Dracula

The Return of the Living Dead

Could I name sequels, I'd name: Evil Dead 2, Dawn of the Dead and Inferno.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, if I think of some more I'll post them.

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot Psycho and Freaks!

Inferno

Inferno is technically a sequel. It was the second movie in Dario Argento's unfinished "Three Mothers" trilogy.

Fuck. I forgot about that. Guess I'll have to do some editing.

avoiding movies which have already been mentioned...

Cemetary Man

The Dead Next Door

Nosferatu

The Omen

Alien

Pet Semetary

Silent Night Deadly Night (it really has good character development)

and I'll second Candyman, since a lot of people dont agree

Im sorry, but theres no way Scream should be one, it almost single-handedly destroyed the horror genre

I pretty much agree with everyones picks (except for Scream) so I won't bother listing them.

The other horror flicks that I really enjoyed that one has mentioned are:

The People Under the Stairs

Razorback

The First Power

Just Before Dawn

Only one of those is on DVD (The First Power), hopefully more will get released later. Pretty well EVERY Wes Craven movie is on DVD, so why The People Under the Stairs isn't is a mystery. I guess someone hates me.

Oops, sorry about the typo, I meant "no one" has mentioned.

Btw, one of my favourites that I forgot to mention was Demons. I love that movie.
