Seinfeld named best tv show ever...

TV Guide recently made a ranking of the Best TV Shows ever and "Seinfeld" came out on top. I truly agree. No matter how many times I watch the "Soup Nazi" or "Contest" episodes I always laugh out loud, and the same goes with many other episodes.

I only hope that "The X-Files" and "The Simpsons" are ranked high also. If anybody gets that TV Guide issue could you post the rankings here? Thanks.

So, what do you guys think?

It wasn't a list of the "Best" TV shows, it was of the "Most Influential" TV shows.  There's a difference.  Most influential means it had an impact on our culture in one way or another, which Seinfeld certainly did.  I would have put MST3K on there myself, but that's just me.

I would agree. Its my favorite of all time. Even without my personal love for it, I would name it. Simpsons and All In the Family would be close seconds. I wasnt a big fan of it, but Cheers would have to be high up there too.

I can't disagree. The Soup Nazi is just brilliant.

seinfeld sucked. it was a horrible show, and i never understood how the show got so popular, because it's just horrible.

I never liked Seinfeld either, it was never as funny or clever as it thought it was but i don't really like American sitcoms in general apart from The Simpsons.

I wouldn't even name it best sitcom ever. That would go to NewsRadio. I did enjoy Seinfeld, but it was SO overrated, and by the last few years of its run, it had gotten very repetitive. Was the "end of Seinfeld" *really* worth all that fucking media coverage? I think not.

have you ever watched a full episode?

personally, Im not a big Seinfeld fan, but I cant deny the influence it had, so it probably does deserve that title

they were before my time, but from what Ive heard, All in the Family and I Love Lucy would be contenders for most influential... but I cant judge firsthand, so I dont know

Seinfeld was brilliant

I prefer Fawlty Towers, Father Ted and Black Books but for sheer consistency then Seinfeld has to be the best ever follwed by the Simpsons.

Influential? Mash, Monty Python and Cheers.

Best Shows, Twin Peaks, Dr Who, I Claudius, Q6.

If the list was indeed the top "influential" shows, then maybe Seinfeld was a decent pick.

If the list was for the best show ever, there is no way in hell Seinfeld should be #1. I can think half a dozen other shows that should take that honor.

Seinfeld and All In The Family are my favorite sitcoms ever, but I perfer dramas.  I'd be happy if The X-Files and ER were also in the Top 5.  I know ER is way down on the list, but last I checked The X-Files was doing pretty good.

I loved the "Seinfeld" series, but most influential ever? I think not. If by influence they mean social commentary, then there are others (All in the Family) that should be placed ahead. Also, wasn't "Uncle Milty" the reason so many people got TVs back in the day? If that's not influence, I don't know what is...

First, Eric S. has a link for this article on his 411's column, hopefully someone can help and copy-paste the full list.

Now about the subject.

I like Seinfeld, but Most Influential? no way, I think The Simpsons is way way more influential than Jerry.

And btw, News Radio? c'mon guy, you must be kidding, right? that show sucks.

I didn't really like Seinfeld that much.

Best:

Mash

All in the Family

Simpsons

The Tonight Show (Johnny Carson)

Cheers

Home Improvement

Tell me you did not just say that.  TELL ME YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!

Seriously though, Newsradio was a very good show.  Granted, it went downhill after Hartman's death, but w/ Phil the show was great.  Very smart show, never was able to get established because NBC kept moving it around.  What exactly don't you like about the show?

I've said it before, but I'd love to see Newsradio released on DVD.

Oh, and Seinfeld is also one of my favorite sitcoms.

tv guide is a pathetic, critical mass-oriented, ass-kissing piece of crap whose opinion doesn't mean shit.  their blatant predilection toward mainstream shows is just retarded.  the fact that they only seem to consider sitcoms & dramas is also retarded.  sketch comedies (specifically monty python, the single most original piece of television ever conceived) & special class shows (like talk soup and mst3k) are basically ignored in favor of the cookie-cutter-formatted american network television.  no way is seinfeld number one.

I didn't like Seinfeld when it was on, but I started downloading episodes from Kazaa in the Fall, and I like the show now. I have like 8 or 9 CDS with Seinfeld episodes. I will admit that the early episodes weren't anything great, but somewhere along the line, the show got pretty damn funny, especially George's rat bastardness. I think I'm about to have a Seinfeld Marathon right now.

The most influencial show has to "Saturday Night Live." How can it not be? Everyone has some thing they've incorporated in their everyday language from SNL.

Bar none, Seinfeld is the best show of all time.  I am never disappointed watching Seinfeld.

Most influential is a different story, I was not alive at the birth of TV shows, so who knows.

But Seinfeld does rule.

As for Sketch Comedy, anyone who has ever seen The State, knows that SNL pales in comparison to it.

Might I add that I think that list is a piece of shit.  How is Letterman ahead of Carson.

No wrestling? MNF? What gives? Actually these lists don't mean anything to me because they don't make me enjoy my favorites any less. They are just something to create conversation. I'm wondering what the criteria were for the things on this list.

Guest goodhelmet

yeah Seinfeld does not belong at the top of the list! MASH, Lucy, the cosby Show, hell even the Brady Bunch had a more profound impact on tv. And where the hell is Welcome Back Kotter?!?!

Guest Ripper

Leterman above Carson(or Leno for that matter), Buffy at 41(ok that might be right but I would like to see it higher) and not Welcome Back Kotter!!!!!.  That officially makes the list shiot.

I agree fully that the list is biased in what's "best", and that Leno is much funnier than Letterman (I realize this has next to nothing to do with the quote, but I've never seen Johnny Carson so its the closest argument I have to say).  Letterman can be funny, but the majority of his jokes aren't, not to mention all that NY propaganda he always puts out (and I'm not talking about his return after the 9/11, that was classy, but his vast amounts of other NY stuff is just stupid).

As for "Seinfeld"... it's EXTREMELY hit or miss, and although I've only seen a few episodes, I must have seen the worst because only one of 'em hit for me, though I will admit the one that did was hilarious.  It's definitely overrated.

But at least TV Guide put some of the right shows on their list... if they hadn't included "The Twilight Zone" I would've been PISSED!
