its more like a knee to face off of the other persons knee (when hes on one knee crouching down).

i remember once mutah did it off of someones stomach when that guy was doing a bridging northern light suplex... it looks amzing

From a kayfabe standpoint, it's a shame that Kawada had to lie down for that weak move after all of the beatings he's had in his early years from the likes of Stan Hansen, Jumbo Tsuruta, Tenyru, etc and in his later years by his peers Misawa and Kobashi.

So the shining wizard is looked at as a weak move in Japan?  kind of like the people's elbow or what?

Yeah, that's a good comparison.  It's used to draw a pop, but it's not realistic at all.  Hell, HHH's knee looks better, but I can't stand either guy, so I don't really care.

There have also be other versions, using a boot to the face and an axe kick to the back of the head, instead of the knee to the face.

There's a clip at Rana-Revolution, link in the 'read and don't forget' post.

Personally, I really like the move, it makes a difference from the endless powerbombs folks use to finish other folk off. Problem is, Mutoh can't do it properly, and I doubt anyone else could do it perfectly either, It's just too hard to execute. So, it's a sound idea, but it really doesn't look good at the end of the day.

From what I had heard I thought it was some kind of stiff vicious move but I guess I was Rock...I mean wrong.

I don't see why so many people have so many problems with the move. Personally I have no problem with taking the Shining Wizard as a credible finisher and I have no problem believing that it might take a couple of em to put someone away.

I've seen a few other people do it better then him actually but Mutoh's still never look as bad to me as some people claim they do.

Technical, as he invented the move, he does it right.... only technical of course.

Im sorry, he invented the move, fair enough. But, when someone falls over half-way through a move, whether they invented it or not, something is going wrong.

I want to see it before I make a call on it.  If it looks really stiff then it should be a credible finisher.

I'm pretty shocked that the Shining Wizard is a knee. I had envisioned some kind of lethal maneuver that would be devastating while at the same time stylish. I still want to get my hands on the best of Japan 2001 tape set that Scott Keith is currently reviewing. Every Japan thing I've gotten my hands on so far has been awesome (as limited as it has been).

If you want stiff, watch Aja Kong vs. Dynamite Kansai or Nobuhiko Takada vs. Vader, *NOT* Keiji Mutoh.  He's the antithesis of the word "stiff."

a stiff knee sounds like somethingf Lesnar should be using.

He needs some stiff shots.  Even his forearms to the back looked like he was trying applying suntan lotion to Stasiak and failing.

Another way of seeing the Shining Wizard is, if you have an Xbox, check out Dead or Alive 3. One of the characters, Tina, uses it. It looks kinda silly in the game, as whomever she uses it on tends to fly halfway across the screen upon being hit.

It's also in Smackdown 3: Just Bring It! for PS2, called the 'Flash Magic.' It's pretty deadly in the game.

"Flash Magic?" That's a better name for it than "Shining Wizard"--which is what they call it in DOA3. As a side note, Tina also does the Diamond Cutter in the game, and it is even named as such.
