C# and .net

I'm a CS major with about a year of experience coding in Java. A classmate of mine is singing the praises of C# and .NET. I haven't had any experience with C#, so I'm wondering what other people think of it. In other words, should I hurry up and get on board or is Java still the hot language?

Given that, from what I've seen, that C++ is the industry standard for a lot of software development, I wouldn't exactly call Java a hot language unless you're dealing strictly with distributed applications.

I don't know anything about C#, but from what I understand, the .net version of C++ is just supposed to be the same as the other versions of Visual C++ but with more available libraries (probably those that are related to Microsoft's .net initiative).

Here's a link to some C# resources, though:

Thanks for the link. I'm basically going on what I've heard companies are looking for when they hire programmers. It seems like you have to know Java.
