RULES:

- The people who put the list together are: Dean Rasmussen, Phil Rippa, Phil Schneider, Marcel Hille, Tom Karro-Gassner, Mike Naimark, Tony Gancarski, Ray Duffy, Pete Stein and Tim Noel.

- The list is a reflection of who we feel are the 500 best wrestlers at the time the list is put out. Think of it as this - if we were going to put on a wrestling card on either Nov. 1 or May 1 - every single person on the list could work it. That is why we stick to the injury and other kayfabe policies mentioned later on.

- The list is reflective, but not limited too, a wrestlers previous six month body of work.

- Injuries are factored into the decision making process. ****** booking is not. But, sooner or later, you do have to make with the matches to move up and stay on the list.

- We do not include wrestlers we have never seen work.

- We do not include wrestlers we have not seen work in the last 12 months. This window of opportunity varies based on the availability of tapes - meaning that the easier it is to get tapes the shorter the time frame. (ex: since it is harder to get tapes from Puerto Rico, we would give them the full 12 months.)

- We didn't include wrestlers who are hurt and have missed an extended period of time. Injured wrestlers must have returned to action on or before either April 30, 2001 or October 31, 2001 to be eligible. Exception - if the "injured" wrestler did not miss any dates before said deadline they would be considered eligible (all injury cases considered on case by case basis)

- We didn't include wrestlers who are working angles like retirement and suspensions or worked injuries and any other old-school kayfabe angles.

- The list is obviously the opinions of a few men with obvious (and some not-so obvious biases). It is done to generate wrestling discussion on the board. It is done because it gives us undo pleasure fighting amongst ourselves while the list is being cobbled together and then fighting with you all about whether Scotty Mack is really better than Califana #2

Wow...all I'll say is that after looking at just the first few guys on the list they picked, the guys from DVDVR are now #1 on my list of people to NEVER ever listen to when it comes to what is and isn't good wrestling, and in this case who is and isn't a good wrestler.

Why? What's to doubt about Ian Rotten being better than Keiji Muto, almost the entire T2P, Jerry Lynn and Dos Caras? Or the best heavyweight prospect in the world, Daisuke Sekimoto, not able to match up to the awesome talents of Sabu, Matsunaga and Horace Hogan to make it on the 500? If you have any doubt about the glowing credibility, just remember that Koki Kitahara, who's peak in the last year was a **1/2 six man tag, is better than Hiroyoshi Tenzan! But finally, the inclusion of Michinoku Pro's hot prospect, 6'3" PRIDE fighting lucharesu superstar, former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, "Tadao Yuasu", leaves me no doubt who the gurus of ranking are!

Yeah, the DVD guys like to stick in little things to make comments about todays wrestling scene. They don't really think Ian Rotten is a 163 candidate, they are just taking the piss out of Mutoh and his lazy work by putting him in the place under Ian.

I got what they meant with Mutoh under Rotten.  However, shouldn't the 500 list be compiled objectively in regards to actual quality of wrestling, while leaving petty grievences at the door?  I mean, come on, it's ludicrous that Ian should be on the list at all, much less above guys like Mutoh, Caras, Lynn, Christian, Dinsmore, and so on.  I've gotta think that the really low placements of HHH and RVD are political in nature too, there's just too many less talented guys placed above them.  Oh well, at least Low Ki isn't in the top ten anymore.

Los Talibanes ranked so high?  Blue Panther #6 while Dr Wanger #20?

 

Why is Blue Panther above Dr Wanger, in the last 4 months Dr Wanger became trios champions and had some good singles matches against Shocker, Atlantis, Black Warrior and has defended CMLL against the New Japan invasion.  While Blue Panther basically has worked just trios matches with Dr Wanger & Fuerza Guerrero or Black Warrior.  Did I miss some big matches from last year?
