Star Ocean 3 rocks!!!

I was a bit skeptical about this game before, but now I'm a believer. I've only been playing for an hour or so, but this is one of the crispest, most beautiful looking RPG's I've seen in a long time.

I've heard this game takes over 30 hours to play. It's been a long time since I've had a game that long and deep, so I'm really glad I bought it.

It starts out pretty well but the gameplay tends to fall apart as you progress. You'll be getting you ass handed to you by enemies that are only giving up 3 EXP and then suddenly you'll find yourself against pushovers that hand over 21 EXP. You'll find yourself to be too strong for the enemies/bosses for awhile and then suddenly the next batch of enemies will tear your party to shreds.

There are some very serious balance issues with this game. I like it a lot but I've been getting frustrated with not always knowing where to go and the fact that I have to just stop and fight battles for a few hours to get my characters up to speed when I've been gaining levels at a decent pace leading up to that.

I used to have to do that with almost every Final Fantasy and Breath of Fire game. If you're an experienced RPG Gamer, you know how to deal with these little annoyances. ;)

Oh, I have too. It's why I tend to blow through newer games quite easily but it's pretty bad in this game. For about 3 levels or so the enemies were doing about 5 damage or lower to my characters per attack. It would have worked better in a random battle system IMO. It's too tempting to just avoid the enemies in this game, it's really easy, but you basically have to fight everything you see or you'll be too weak to fight anything.

The bonus system doesn't help matters easily. It doesn't help you catch up when you're way behind on levels and it makes you too overpowered when you're already overpowered. You can make out like a bandit on the gauge if you hit a 20 or 30 chain of battles from it.

Oh and be ready to sit through most of the first 6 hours.

Some cut scenes go over the 30 minute mark and you almost never get any say in what Fyte decides.
