Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 1, 2002 Any prognostications on opening weekend take? Im betting 85 million... feel free if you want to throw in opinions on whether you think it will be good or not, but im really looking for a $ predicition
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 1, 2002 76 mill
Guest pochorenella Report post Posted May 2, 2002 76 mill That sounds about right. I only hope that it goes over 250 mil overall when it's all said and done. Episode II might make it lose some steam since it's a sure bet it will go over $100 mil on opening weekend just two weeks later.
Guest What?! Report post Posted May 2, 2002 $67.8 Million How much do May openings on blockbuster movies usually make on opening weekends in the past anyways?
Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 2, 2002 usually right around the figure you gave 67 - 68. theyve been doing this for 4 years now. As fas as having an early summber movie opening. this year spider man last year mummy returns (around 75 mil) then gladiator (50 mil?) the first year was the mummy (around 50 mil?) somebo9dy out there may have exact stats to add.. Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 2, 2002 Opening Weekends from the last few years of early summer movies. Mummy Returns - $68,139,035 Gladiator - $34,819,017 The Mummy - $43,369,635 I bet Spiderman will do huge bank somewhere between the 75 - 85 million dollar range. Everyone I know is planning on checking it out. By the time Star Wars comes out 19 days later Spiderman will probably be getting close to 200 mil but at least at $150 mil. Early buzz is good, I could see it doing close to, if not, 300 mil.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 2, 2002 yikes! i was a little off there on Mummy and Gladiator.. but whats 29 mil among friends right? i think the top overall moneymakers will end up being Star Wars (hell i dont like star wars but you know its going to do it. Im even going to see it for the matrix preview) Spider-Man MIB II
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 2, 2002 Spiderman will break the record for the most sales in a 3 day period.
Guest Report post Posted May 2, 2002 "Spiderman will break the record for the most sales in a 3 day period. " So it will do over 100 million? I highly doubt it. That's possible Ep. 2 territory, but I don't think SM has that type of drawing power. X-Men did 55 million in its opening weekend, and while it might not have the crossrange appeal, I'd venture to guess it's more popular with the 18-30 male crowd. Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 2, 2002 I'm calling it right here...either SW:EII or Spiderman...one of them will be Godzilla bad. In terms of dissapointing draws. I'm hoping that finally those Star Wars nerds grow up. However...Spiderman? 74 Million. Week one. 368 total gross.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 2, 2002 Spiderman has drawing power nearly everybody has seen the comic book, cartoon, tv series or specials....Electric Company, and the unforgetable theme song "Spiderman, Spiderman, nobody can do it like Spiderman....do di do di do" Spiderman has nostaliga written all over it, ditto for Star Wars.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 2, 2002 Star Wars can't be nostalglia since they came out with one two years ago...
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 3, 2002 I'm thinking that both will be good. I've got high hopes for both of them. Every movie I've had really high hopes for this year has came through. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this won't be the start.

Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted May 3, 2002 It's going to at least get my $8.
Guest Smues Report post Posted May 3, 2002 I can see Spiderman doing ungodly numbers, but I can't see Episode 2 breaking 50 million. If I recall Episode one opened around 50 something million, and this was the starwars anticipated for over 15 years, and I know a lot of people hated episode, so I can't see episode 2 doing more than spidey. Not Godzilla bad as in the movie being shit.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 3, 2002 Episode did $64,820,970 in it's opening weekend. It had already been playing since Wednesday though and if you count that it was $105,661,237. Episode I was in 2,970 theatres, Spiderman is in 3,615. Factor in inflation and the extra theatres and it won't be that different.

I'm not really sure but I think I remember it making a little more than that but certainly not breaking the $150 mill some predicted and not breaking "The Lost World"'s record for highest grossing weekend. Anyway, I have faith in both movies and I hope they both break the $250-$300 mill barrier. And also, can anyone point me to any Spider-Man's reviews? Like I posted on the Comics forum, I've only read Roger Ebert's one and he pretty much gave him thumbs down, but Areacode212 says he's read nothing but good reviews for the movie. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 3, 2002 Well i'm sure if you ran a search for Spiderman movie reviews you'd find a shit load.
Guest pochorenella Report post Posted May 3, 2002 I did, man. All I've gotten so far are previews, but not actual movie reviews.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 3, 2002 hmm really. try these http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/ http://www.hollywood.com/ These are only sites i personally have that would have reviews. I'd find more but don't feel like looking.

Partly because they sucked (except for Godzilla which all of it sucked) and partly because of hype...think about it Um...sorry to tell you but we all know that shitty movies are pretty much always the ones that make the most money. Americans don't want good movies they just want a nice easy to digest fluff movie that doesn't make them think. This is widely known

Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted May 4, 2002 44.1 million opening DAY! They are now predicting 105-120 million opening weekend which will obliterate any and all preceeding records. Go friendly neighborhood spiderman.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Sweet, I hope it does break the record. A guy on Zap2It.com predicted 70 mil, placing it 3rd all-time under the Lost World, but he added that many theateres are showing the movie on multiple screens, so it is impossible to predict exactly how much money the movie will bring in.
