Should the rest of the world get a say?

Recommended Posts

That's the kind of ethnocentric attitude that has caused such outrage.

By the way...

Thinking that only citizens of your country should vote in elections IN that country is ethnocentric now?

Seriously, do you know how stupid that sounds?

Yeah... that's like saying that illegal immigrants should have a right to vote.

Wait a minute... some dumbfucks in California think that! I don't think these goddamn idiots ever bothered to read voting regulations that state that someone has to be at least 18, not a convicted felon, and *a natural-born US citizen or a naturalized citizen*.

Seeing as everything that had to be said about this dumbass thread has been said... Ahem...

All this talk about other countries voting in our elections is GETTING ME IN THE ZONE!

It's FIVE KNUCKLE SHUFFLE TIME!

And to say it doesn't matter what the rest of the world thinks is a pretty awesome display of ignorance which perhaps perfectly exemplifies why the rest of the world may feel this way about America.

Thank you.

Fuck the world, or at least those that don't agree with us...

which is basically the world then.

It's quite funny that American thinks they are the best, but have no real knowledge about what is outside America.

The world doesn't revolve around USA, and Americans should take note to that.

At the risk of sounding mean, we don't have to know a thing about anybody else.

Actually if our economic and foreign policies have so much impact on everybody else, if we're to believe that little nugget that C-Bacon or whoever dropped, things sorta do revolve around us....................

*Actually it sort of does*

OK, let me reiterate the ehnocentric stuff is shit. Who populates the United States? Immigrants! What can you do to affect the election? Become a US Citizen! How does the world feel about us? If it's important to U fucking S citizens, we will vote accordingly! What can citizens of other countries that want to directly affect our political process do? Fuck right off!

And thats the kind of attitude that helped bring about 9/11 Mike.

Really, how can you sit there and say that ignorance is a good thing?

We are -- what's your point?

but have no real knowledge about what is outside America.

And I'm sure the vast majority of people in other coutries are just as ignorant. I wish I could say some hippie multi-national line about how we all could put aside our difference and join hands in one great big circle-jerk (except Israel of course, because they're occupiers), but I just don't have it in me...

Actually, I think the opinion was more of the ALLAH!!! variety about killing infidels.

I don't think that Canada is the best country to live in. I just think we have great beer, hockey, great music, and back bacon.

I mean everyone is ignorant and will state that their country is the best, but at least most countries don't ignore whats going on in the world.

Considering that we're the ones who has to do the UN's dirty work most of the time, I wouldn't say we're ignorant to the rest of the world. If we're just talking about the average American citizen, however, why the fuck SHOULD we care? If it doesn't affect us, then there's no need in bothering to know useless shit about what goes on in Germany or any other of the European countries.

Just because they have a hair stuck in their ass about OUR elections doesn't mean we should give a shit about what THEY think.

I don't know what's going on in Nebraska, much less the rest of the world.

Seriously, I think that's just an effect of being content rather than ignorance or blind nationalism. If all is good where I'm at, why would I go scouring the world's news to find problems.

I believe America gives more money than any other country, when we have our own problems.

Hey, how about the European countries start busting their ass to try to catch up with America? It's not impossible. India is churning out great engineers.

I work 40 hours a week (60 at my last, less cushy job) and volunteer with United Way in my spare time. France and Germany can got off their 35-work week asses if they want more of a say in the world's affairs.

Hey, I like Canada too, and Canadian people are great, at least in B.C, and you do have terrific beer. Having pride in one's country is great. My favorite country in the world is the U.S. I'm glad yours is Canada if you live there.

However this whole idea boils down to: you're too powerful so you should give us control of you. Sounds pretty much like Marxism to me. Where has that turned out well?

Well, mild forms of socialism are prevalent throughout Europe...

So if the Americans wanted to vote for a dumbass they do. If they want to vote for a flip flopper, they do.

Well, after nominations, those are really the only choices available.

As opposed to the rampant ignorance about America I've seen from all over the world?

Hate to break it to you, but my life is not impacted, whatsoever, by whomever runs any European country.

I love the World, really I do..

"WE HATE YOU AMERICA! WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DECIDE WHO RUNS YOU!"

and then three months later

"Yo...America...hi. Mind if we borrow some cash? You know we was just playing right? We still boys! Love the flag, it's really cute..."

It never ends, the world hates the United States until it needs the US. When it needs the US, then it's all buddy buddy and hugs. The UN is constantly going "SOMETHING MUST BE DONE" then staring at the US to do something. If we don't, we are selfish. If we do, we are selfish. Either way, the world doesn't like us.

And anyone who says the US is self centered and only thinks of ourselves, well then you'd be right I suppose in concern to lots of our citizens. But luckily those people are rarely in charge of the country. We've gained nothing from Iraq but one big headache and a giant debt. If America was sooo evil and self centered, then we'd NEVER help anyone in the world and we've done enough to be cut some fucking SLACK for ONCE IN A GOD DAMN LIFETIME.

Especially from fucking EUROPE who was bailed the fuck out TWICE by the US, RUSSIA and the UK. God damn GERMANY gets more slack and they tried to take over the planet TWICE!

It never fucking ends with this "what have you done for me lately" opinion of the US by the rest of the world. The real self centered pricks are the rest of the planet and should be damn glad the US has had the patience it has had.

We may not be perfect but at least we TRY to do something. You want to vote, vote in your own election and let us do our thing. We haven't royally fucked the planet over just yet.

Do they make everyone have the same amount of shit in Europe? No. They just have far reaching social programs. And Euro economies are slowly tanking.

I wasn't arguing with you, you making it clear that Marxism doesn't sound like that crazy of an idea to Europeans. Hell, plenty of them have Communist parties still.

Another problem is that most European countries have negative population growth now. That's bad in a heavily socialist country.

How about we just take control of the world and still not let any other countries vote?

Naw. It's the equivalent of picking a lot of the short, fat, smelly nose-pickers for your dodgeball team.

The thing I really hate about America is their media. To me, I don't think they know what the difference between good news and bad news is. (ie people cared about the Kobe case in the states, more than what happened in Chechen hostage situation).
