Guest Janus527 Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 I'm just curious as to who executed the very first moonsault. I suspect that someone here knows. Thanks for any information.
Guest Dace59 Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Whoever did the first backflip. That's all a moonsault is. Muta brought it to the main stream of western wrestling durring in NWA fued with Flair.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Yeah I'm pretty sure Muta was the first to do it in the USA.
Guest Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 As fucked up as it sounds, I recall Leapin' Lanny Poffo doing a Moonsault in a match against Terry Funk, back in the mid-80's WWF. The match is on one of the Coliseum Video's "Best of WWF" series. Volume 6 is be exact. Although, more memorable, I remember a young Muta doing Moonsaults in NWA around 1989 as well.
Guest ArkhamGlobe Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 I believe Chavo Guerrero was the first do the moonsault block, and Lanny Poffo was atleast one of the first to do the moonsault press. Atleast that's what I remember hearing on the Wrestling Gold DVD's from Meltzer and Cornette.
Guest dreamer420 Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Who's the biggest wrestler to ever do a moonsault? Vader or Bam Bam Bigelow?
Guest Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Who's the biggest wrestler to ever do a moonsault? Vader or Bam Bam Bigelow? Has anyone ever seen Bigelow hit the moonsault properly?
Guest Dace59 Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Big Show/The Giant is said to have done one at a WCW dark match or house show.. this has never been comfirmed, but he has been seen landing a few top rop drop kicks before though.
Guest dreamer420 Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Who's the biggest wrestler to ever do a moonsault? Vader or Bam Bam Bigelow? Has anyone ever seen Bigelow hit the moonsault properly? Hell no. He twists as soon as he leaves his feet and it looks more like a roll than anything.
Guest razazteca Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 I think the biggest person to do the Moonsault is the Headhunters. Terry Funk does the Moonsault better than Bam Bam
Guest Dace59 Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Funk does the same twist with his moonsaults. Sometimes called a rounding splash.. it's just an easier way to do the move.

It was pretty sloppy and he didn't make much contact but it was a Moonsault in WWF in 1985 or 86.
Guest swan Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 I think it was David Lee Roth on his Eat'em and Smile tour circa 1985/86.
Guest dreamer420 Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 Terry Funk does look like a thinner Bam Bam while doing a moonsault. IMO Super Crazy is the best in the business.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted May 2, 2002 Report Posted May 2, 2002 I'm pretty sure everything on the Best of the WWF Vol. 6 if from 85, besides the Valiant-Putski match.
