Guest Report post Posted May 2, 2002 I've been watching the '97 Royal Rumble. So far, I've watched the first three matches...it gets better, right? The Goldust-Helmsley match is a crashing bore (and it's the first match!), the Ahmed-Farooq match is blah, and the Vader-Taker match is extremely mediocre. I'm not holding out much hope for Sid-HBK, 'cuz, ya know, it's Sid, but the Rumble itself is good, right? It's hard to mess up a Rumble. Right?
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 2, 2002 Not really. The 6 man tag is pretty crappy IMO and the Rumble is one of the worst ever, with a horrible field.
Guest Report post Posted May 2, 2002 How'd that emoticon end up in my post? I didn't put it there...intentionally, anyway. No matter. I'll have the rest of RR '97 watched by the end of this evening, though I can't say I'm looking forward to it.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 2, 2002 is that the one where Sid uses a camera to beat up Jose Lotherio?
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 2, 2002 I vaguely remember it. I remember the Rumble, with Austin winning, to be good at the time. Sid-HBK was good enough, but not their best match. Razateca, that was the Survivor Series of 96.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 2, 2002 It was the Rumble where Austin really got tossed and snuck back in and eliminated Bret Hart to win.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 2, 2002 Aside from the great acting of Austin, Hart and Lawler, nothing outstanding from this rumble...but it is an amazing look at some of the greatest characters in WWF History...before they got big..."Rocky Mavia" "Mankind" "Angry Bret". Guest Report post Posted May 3, 2002 Update on my RR '97 viewing: 6-man lucha tag was nothing but a bunch of meaningless spots. In other words, it was boring. It was kinda amusing to hear announcer Vince calling three different luchadores Heavy Metal, and JR not even bothering to point out his error, but still calling the right guy Heavy Metal, anyway (I wouldn't have expected Lawler to get it straight). The Rumble match had some fun moments, but it was mostly dull. I still have HBK-Sid to watch, but nothing's going to keep this from being a crappy PPV. You go back to your TV and watch anothe match and then come here and announce that . idiot Hey! Day #4, and I get my first unprovoked attacked. I feel truly welcomed now. Anyhoo, I liked that HBK-Sid match. I wouldn't give it more than *** or anything, but I ejoyed it. I gotta give credit to Sid for actually working on Shawn's lower back before applying a bearhug. I generally hate bearhugs, but Sid--in this match, anyway--employed some psychology to make the bearhug mean something. Now I'm really interested in seeing their Survivor Series '96 match (and the Bret-Austin one, too). If only I could find a copy.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 3, 2002 The card itself is not great but I loved the rumble. I was watching with my "mark crew" and they all hated Austin. I was marking out when he cheated and won..one dude in the room was practically crying because as he said (and i shit you not) "its not fair..Bret got screwed"... same guy had nervous breakdowns when: 1) Austin defeated Jake for the king of the ring 2) hogan turned funny stuff
