I from Illinois so it's a big deal around here,Yao Ming the 7'5 guy from China workout in Chicago yesterday, scouts, players, and reporters were impressed with his ablities but they also said he's not athletic and said it'll take him a while to get adjusted in the NBA, My question is he worth the hype? and how will he be successful in the NBA?

They are hyping him as the "Ichiro" of the NBA. Yao Ming looks impossing and is decently atheletic for his immense size...If he bulked up, he would be the force of TWO Shaq's. They say he can also hit the open J, which is something Shaq never is best known for.

It's a shame that NBA rigs the lottery, So either Chicago or New York can get this guy instead of Memphis or Denver. A team that would benifit as team and a franchise.

weird! i jsut read an article on the guy on lunch break and was going to start a thread. The story said he moves quicker that a man his size should, so he should be good. The only practice he's had though is inferior foreign leagues. He will make an impact.. it will take time to see how much.

If he fails the wwf could bring him in for a big feud with the Undertaker.

Yeah, were did you read that article becasue every one that I read said that he was very athletic and was suprisingly quick.  They just said they wondered about his ability to stay out of foul trouble.  They also mentioned how he was more muscular than they thought.

As for making a immediate impact...the guy is 7' 5" with a jumper, can pass, and is athletic.  Of course he will make a impact.  And since he is going to the Knicks(mark my words, the Knicks will get the #1 pick. damn rigged lottery) he will be a scoring threat and will get the ball alot.  Will it get them back in the playoffs...Doubt it.

I'd draft him ahead of Jason Williams! I think it'll take him maybe a year to adjust to the physical part of the game, but the wait will be worth it. A frontcourt of Ming, Curry, and Chandler could be the greatest frontcourt ever if they all lived up to their potential. That is if the Bulls drafted him.

As far as the guy being athletic, I wouldn't say all of that. Kevin Garnett is an athletic 7 footer, this guy has good footwork. He's not clumsy, but he's not quick either. He has soft hands and decent range (they say he can shoot an NBA 3), but I haven't seen the guy dribble the ball at all. He's 7'5 and 236 pounds. I think he is good, but basing a franchise around him isn't neccessarily something I would do. I would draft him high (high school players are getting drafted high), but I wouldn't make him the focal point of my team.

jason williams is overrated, as is every duke player other than brad daugherty, he was ggreat, too bad about his back.  Coack K teaches how to win at the college level, so when the dukies go pro they are sub par at best.  Grant Hill maybe, but he had like  one good year so we cannot tell untill he is healthy.  Jason Williams will be shitty, he is not a leader, and he never proved he can make the big shot.

Brad Daugherty played for North Carolina, and not every Duke player is overated (Elton Brand).

Let's not wait until then. Let's see if the Clippers can make the playoffs next season. They just missed them this year.

I agree 100% with that statment.

Someone tell me anyone over 7-3 that was really good. There's been some solid players but know one who was worthy of being a lottery pick, let alone a potential Number 1 pick. Most of these guys aren't even deserving to be in the first round when all his said and done, IMO.

yeah, this years draft crop is weak.  Wagner and baxter will probably be the only breakouts I can see, and even that will take a few years.  I don't see anyone breaking out the first season.

Sabonis is pretty good and was 7'3 and Rik Smits 7'4 (Yao is compared to) they were pretty good players.

I'm sure Artis Gilmore (if you count the fro) was around 7'3

Players really need to bring back the 'fro

There are some nbaers that have brought the fro' back. A few of them have big ass straight from the 70's fros but i can't think of who they play for. Seattle players need to start growing fros for the seasons since they now have those 70's looking jerseys.

Since the 'fro is making a comeback, maybe geri-curl is just around the corner.
