Guest Evolution Report post Posted October 1, 2004 Rumor has it that this could be the last show in Rock Island if the attendance is not good enough. NO! Where are they thinking of going? Well, hopefully it won't happen, but if the attendance isn't ideal, they might move operations to Muscatine, thus leaving the Quad-Cities with only one wrestling outlet once again instead of two. Guest ian. Report post Posted October 1, 2004 I really hope the place is full tonight... What's the other outlet, by the way?
Guest Evolution Report post Posted October 1, 2004 What's the other outlet, by the way? Well, it's Scott County Wrestling, currently running out of Donahue, Iowa, which is about 5 miles out of Davenport. To call it professional wrestling would be a disgrace to professional wrestling, however. And I work for them. It's not backyard smash-em-up though, either. It's somewhere in between. An alright product for what they charge.
thuganomics 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2004 As the guy who currently runs the official No Limits forum (end cheap plug) I think it would be a shame to see No Limits go away, but having attended only one of the Quad Cities show (a 2 hr drive for me) I'd rather see them move farther in to Iowa. The area between Des Moines and Waterloo was once a hot bed for pro wrestling; I personally think it could be again if a promotion as good as this one moved in. Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted October 2, 2004 I really wish this fed would run on Saturdays or something. I'm sitting here at work, 2 and a half hours away from Chris Daniels...
Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted October 2, 2004 Results from the show credit: RossWB from the NL board I was at the show tonight, so I figured I'd post some quick results/thoughts... Overall, it was a pretty decent show saved by a tremendous main event. Daniels/Punk alone was easily worth the $15 ticket price. Top to bottom, the wrestling was definitely not as good as the August show - but then again, this show didn't have B-Boy, Homicide, Hero, Cabana, Styles, or Cannon, either. Strangely enough, though, the crowd seemed to be a bit bigger than it was for that show - oh well. - Show opened with a three-way between three guys I had never seen before; the only name I caught was Whiplash, who my friend and I cheered for, since he was a fellow Iowa City boy. Match itself wasn't too great - too much obvious waiting around by the third man and it was fairly sloppy at points. - Trik Davis & Mickie Knuckles d. the All-Stars; OK match, though it seemed to go on much longer than it should have, frankly. The beat-on-Trik portion of the match seemed endless. I also also sad to see that the All-Stars didn't bust out many of their cool double-team moves. - NWA Midwest X Title: Matt Sydal © d. Zach Gowen; yep, Tenacious Z made a surprise appearance, which seemed to make the crowd very happy. He doesn't do much for me personally - I'm very impressed by what he's able to do, but his matches just don't entertain me all that much - but he did put on a good show. Later on, they announced that he'd be back at the next show in Muscatine. - Trik came out after the match to talk some smack, which Sydal responded to with more smack-talk. They eventually agreed to have a ladder match for Sydal's title at the next show, although it was a little unclear whether they meant the next Rock Island show (since Sydal was talking about the ceilings in the building) or the next show, period, which is in Muscatine. Hope it's the next Rock Island show, because I don't think I'll be at the Muscatine show. - Delirious d. Justin Kage; this was really fun, and probably my favorite match of the undercard. Delirious worked as a heel here, and he was awesome - he beat the crap out of Kage with stiff-ass strikes, cheated like crazy, and even BIT him. Insanity. I love me some Delirious... - Ian Rotten d. JC Bailey in a hardcore, falls count anywhere brawl; this was interesting. I'm not a huge deathmatch fan, but I have to admit that it was pretty cool to see one live. Stomac-churning at points (stapling the dollar bill to Bailey's tongue, the HARD chair shot, the electric chair driver onto lighttubes...), but also gripping in that morbid, car crash kinda way. Much respect to Rotten and Bailey (especially Bailey) for putting themselves through such a vicious beating. - After the match, Rotten got on the mic and put over the fans and Bailey, even going so far as to call himself the past of hardcore wrestling and Bailey the present/future of hardcore wrestling... Frankly, I hope Bailey takes a good look at Rotten and realizes what wrestling a career of deathmatches does to a body... - Intermission, so they could clean up the carnage from the preceding match. Rotten and Bailey autographed some of the debris from their match, which was a little messed up. - Kid Krazy & Joey E. d. Mr. Elite & ?; didn't catch the name of Mr. Elite's partner. This wasn't that great. Honestly, I was more impressed with Krazy and Joey in their match at the last show - they at least got to show off some nifty moves at that show, whereas here they worked a much slower pace that didn't seem to show off their talents all that well. They won when Cannon distracted the ref and some skinny guy in a suit used one of Cannon's crutches to nail Mr. Elite, allowing Joey to pin him... maybe they're gonna form a Minneosta stable? - Daizee Haze d. Traci Brooks; much better than I was expecting, frankly. I will say this for IWA (and its cousin promotions like NWA No Limits) - they can put on some mighty fine women's wrestling. This was a very solid and enjoyable match. It had definite T&A appeal, but that was far from the only (or even main) draw. - Truth Martini d. Danny Daniels, Jimmy Jacobs, Nate Webb; good stuff, although it was a bit slow to start and there was way too much stalling. Webb had his usual awesome entrance - he danced around, showed off some HUSS trunks, slow-danced with Jacobs, and even got us to do the wave - awesome. Throughout the match he tried to get Jimmy to "Huss!", but it was to no avail - Jimmy steadfastly refused to "Huss!" unfortunately. Even through it was an elimination four-way, it seemed more like a tag match (Webb/Jacobs v. Daniels/Martini) for most of the time. The bulk of the match was Jimmy getting beat on, which was OK, because he makes a great face in peril. Everyone got in some nice offense, and, all in all, it was entertaining, especially since Daniels and Webb just ooze charisma. - Ryan Boz d. Truth Martini; this started immediately after the previous match. I have to admit that I didn't really pay much attention to this match - my friend and I were more interested in talking about the tatoos all over Truth's body. From what I saw, it seemed to be about as dull and plodding as every other Boz match I've seen. - Christopher Daniels d. CM Punk; Phenomenal. Best main event I've seen yet from NWA No Limits, and one of the best matches I've ever seen live. Both guys worked their asses off for over half an hour (I think), and they put on a tremendous match. Like I said, this match alone was worth the $15. Punk busted out a slew of new moves (or new for him, at least), and Daniels was his usual smooth-as-silk self. I got to see Daniels do the Best Moonsault Ever, and goddamn, is it even prettier when you see it live. Awesome, awesome match - if they signed a rematch, I'd be there in a heartbeat. - Oddly enough, Punk came out to new music, which was very weird. It wasn't nearly as good as the AFI song, either... - The only things announced for the next show (11/5 in Muscatine) are the return of Zach Gowen and (maybe) a ladder match between Matt Sydal and Trik Davis for the NWA Midwest X Title. best, Ross
Guest ian. Report post Posted October 2, 2004 What an amazing show. The Ian Rotten match was the first hardcore match I've seen in person, and I loved it. The security guy came out and told our row that we might as well move our chairs now. Crazy ass shit, and alot of the pictures of the show came from this match. During the intermission, I picked up a piece of the table and offered Ian 10 bucks to sign it, but he declined and signed it for free. The main event was amazing. Thank god for the nwa 20 count, because i was pissed when the ref counted to 10... Delirious used me as a way to get off the floor :w00t: Zack Gowan came out and at first I didnt recognize him...hes gained a few pounds and has more hair than I remember. He got a standing o after the match. All in all, great great show. Probably the best wrestling show I've ever been to. Oh, and these guys got some good local publicity, they made it on the cover of our local paper and got a good write up.
Guest Evolution Report post Posted October 2, 2004 I know the promoters for No Limits fairly well, so I know that they're prone to joking around, but they seemed to be serious when they said they made absolutely ZERO money from this show, and that this would be the last No Limits show. Once again, take it with a grain of salt, but I'd believe it, because I don't think No Limits has been able to make any money on any of their shows, which is most likely why there were fewer indy superstars like Styles, Hero, etc. on this card. thuganomics 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2004 Well, they've already announced a show for the 15th of November in Muscatine, with Zach Gowen making an appearance and Trik Davis vs Ryan Boz for the Iowa title, so I'm guessing NLW will be around for at least awhile longer. I'd still personally like to see them make their way up to Des Moines, Iowa City, or Cedar Rapids as I think they'd have better luck up here.
Guest DeputyHawk Report post Posted October 3, 2004 Was the event filmed? If so (I believe the August show was taped, right?) it seems pretty early to announce zero profit whatsoever. Gabe's spinoff FIP shows last month drew poorly but they broke even with pre-sales on the tapes alone. Surely with good word of mouth, Daniels vs. Punk would be enough of a selling point to make money back for No Limits?

I'm almost positive Smartmark Video taped it, just because Daniels vs. Punk can easily sell tapes, and they've taped every other No Limits show so far.
