The death valley driver 500 version 6.0

Recommended Posts

Guest David Bixenspan

Just put up from my friends at the DVDVR:

RULES:

- The people who put the list together are: Dean Rasmussen, Phil Rippa, Phil Schneider, Marcel Hille, Tom Karro-Gassner, Mike Naimark, Tony Gancarski, Ray Duffy, Pete Stein and Tim Noel.

- The list is a reflection of who we feel are the 500 best wrestlers at the time the list is put out. Think of it as this - if we were going to put on a wrestling card on either Nov. 1 or May 1 - every single person on the list could work it. That is why we stick to the injury and other kayfabe policies mentioned later on.

- The list is reflective, but not limited too, a wrestlers previous six month body of work.

- Injuries are factored into the decision making process. ****** booking is not. But, sooner or later, you do have to make with the matches to move up and stay on the list.

- We do not include wrestlers we have never seen work.

- We do not include wrestlers we have not seen work in the last 12 months. This window of opportunity varies based on the availability of tapes - meaning that the easier it is to get tapes the shorter the time frame. (ex: since it is harder to get tapes from Puerto Rico, we would give them the full 12 months.)

- We didn't include wrestlers who are hurt and have missed an extended period of time. Injured wrestlers must have returned to action on or before either April 30, 2001 or October 31, 2001 to be eligible. Exception - if the "injured" wrestler did not miss any dates before said deadline they would be considered eligible (all injury cases considered on case by case basis)

- We didn't include wrestlers who are working angles like retirement and suspensions or worked injuries and any other old-school kayfabe angles.

- The list is obviously the opinions of a few men with obvious (and some not-so obvious biases). It is done to generate wrestling discussion on the board. It is done because it gives us undo pleasure fighting amongst ourselves while the list is being cobbled together and then fighting with you all about whether Scotty Mack is really better than Califana #2

#413 Is representing brother! Angle and Austin shouldve gotten more love. They were ripping it up during the time period represented. Not to mention that Flair had a grand total of 1 match last year and he's #348.

Mexican love... El Dandy number 25!!!!

I've been watching CMLL for a couple months now, and I'm kinda curious as to why Shocker would be considered number 1.

Interesting reading, as always from the DVD folks.

wonder if they will get a statement letter from the WWF advising that only WWF.com top 500 list will be allowed. lolas.

Supposedly, Shocker had some really great technical exhibitions that just built into amazing matches. But I'm only speculating.

well in the last 4 months Shocker who is the CMLL Semi Completo campion has had awesome matches against Tarzan Boy and Dr Wanger, plus his matches against the New Japan invaders are above average.

check out his matches from Feb, March, April

but I want to know why Blue Panther is ranked above Dr Wanger Jr?  and why Los Talibanes are in the top 200?

I'm confused about the CMLL/EMLL thing also, some of them do tours in NJPW, they did the Best of the Juniors one year, Shocker, Dr Wanger, Black Tiger do regular tours in NJPW, I think.

Los Talibanes is a stupid middle eastern gimmick 96) Bestia Salvaje 158) Emilio Charles Jr. 160) Scorpio Jr wear arabic robes to the ring and do stupid skits looking for camels.

Well it's a good thing they didn't put Hulk Hogan on that list. He doesn't deserve to be on that list at all in any way shape or form.

This list is laughable.  Lets see:

Edge has been worse in the last 6 months than Raven, Matt Hardy and Goldust?  Wow

And HHH is lower than Horace freakin Hogan.  My goodness.  Not that HHH has been spectacular or anything, but come on, Horace ... Horace ... freaking Horace?  wow.

And that's all I got to say about that.

1) Hi I'm Eddie Guerrero and although I'm a fantastic worker, its too soon into my latest comeback to outright declare me the second best worker in the world.

 2) Hi I'm Steve Corino and I'm horribly overrated!  I'm just about the most ordinary wrestler ever who manages to bleed a whole lot.  I'm  surely not stunningly good enough that you can tap me as the 26th best wrestler in the world above about a billion guys that are better than I am.

 3) Hi I'm The Undertaker and I find it funny that even though Ric Flair had two matches in the last six months, one of the them was with me and the other with Vince McMahon, the he's the 348th best worker in the world and I'm not even ranked.  I'm also not as good as Tommy Dreamer, Justin Credible, or C.W. Anderson.

 4) Hi, I'm Chris Hamrick, the suckiest member of a sucky stable in a federation that went out of business.  Even I don't know how the fuck I got ranked number 109.

 5) Hi, I'm Triple H and I'm mildly upset that other workers coming off injuries seem to get the benefit of the doubt in these lists but I get ranked 416.

 6) Hi, I'm William Regal.... WHERE DID ALL MY LOVE GO!?!?!?....(Edit) Oh wait, I'm number 49 and Goodear's stupid

Wake up and watch some Gedo from 2000 on.  I don't know if he is deserving of #11, but he is top 40 to say the least.

Shocker is one of the best Luchadores today, in the land of the fat, spotfest, slow Giants, Shocker is a champion that holds true to the Technico traditions.  Whenever he walks the isle to the ring, you wonder WTF is he wearing today...Elvis jumpsuit, Aztec warrior, or Super Guapo, its site to see. :)

But I think there are some wrestlers that are better than him....Dr Wanger Jr and Black Tiger (Silver King).

rob van dam's only 248????  and goldust is higher than him??? WTF    i never really put a lot of stock into these things anyway, but now i'll never ever believe what these dvd guys have to say.  go look into the archives of lance storms commentaries to see what the wrestlers themselves have to say about these rankings

I honestly think these guys just shuffle 500 names in a hat and just pick 'em out randomly.  It's an exaggeration, but their ratings have always been somewhat ridiculous (Goodear already covered most of the main ones for this list).

'Silver King? From WCW? Hes good now?"

Yes and he was always good.  But in the land of the corupt in WCW, being motivated to work hard was not always a priority on some wrestlers mind.  Watch some and learn.

Yeah.  After around 50 or so it just becomes a list of wrestlers.

Undertaker not being on the list is just dumb since he's been doing so much better in the last year.

Eddy Guererro did do indy bookings, so it's not like their ranking him just from his WWF appearences.

Regal does not deserve to be that high on the list given his matches in the past year.

HHH does deserve his spot.  Since his return he's been shit.

Are Shocker and Electro Shock the same person?  Or is Shocker the guy with white hair who does the smooth behind the back tourture rack type thing submission?

CMLL Shocker uses the spinning backbreaker

AAA Electro Shock wears a mask, Hannibal Lectuar style and carries a stun gun sometimes

they are 2 different people but are both semi completo campions, Electro Shock is the national semi completo campion of AAA

Silver King as the new Black Tiger is a surprising great wrestler, I guess it runs in the family :)

#413 Is representing brother! Angle and Austin shouldve gotten more love.

DR: Our Austin fixation wavers every six months.  I expect him back in the top ten in November.

They were ripping it up during the time period represented. Not to mention that Flair had a grand total of 1 match last year and he's #348.

----

DR: C'mon! He's FLAIR!

YOUNG RAZAZTECA SEZ:

well in the last 4 months Shocker who is the CMLL Semi Completo campion has had awesome matches against Tarzan Boy and Dr Wanger, plus his matches against the New Japan invaders are above average.

DR:  I also dug his match against El Hijo Del Santo in Monterrey.  His selling is the coolest in the world.  Especially in the Doc Wagner and Santo matches.  The NJ Invaders is fun because Shibatta and Inoue look like they are having so much fun being evil bastards.:)

check out his matches from Feb, March, April

but I want to know why Blue Panther is ranked above Dr Wanger Jr?  and why Los Talibanes are in the top 200?

DR: Blue Panther is more consistent and better on the mat.  We were going to have them co-chair the #1 spot for having the swank-assed combo FUSION~! masks.  And the Talibanes? C'mon, it's Bestia, Scorpio and Emilio Charles!!  Old Skool rudos rock.

Mexican love... El Dandy number 25!!!!

DR: El Dandy vs Negro Navarro was like Dean Malenko vs Dean Malenko in 1993.  Absolutely beautiful and completely on the mat.

I've been watching CMLL for a couple months now, and I'm kinda curious as to why Shocker would be considered number 1.

DR: The Tarzan Boy matches, the Doc Wagner match and the Fusion Lagunaros matches were enough for me.  He's amazing now.
