Guest Report post Posted May 3, 2002 Hey Smarks... I've read in a few recent video reveiws i have found as well as input from other Japanese wrestling fans that Toshiaki Kawada is THE wrestler to know about when talking Japanese wrestling...not to mention the fact that Scott Keith reaches an orgasim every time he reviews one of Kawada's matches... Just wondering where i can get some photo's of the guy in action and some statistics on the guy, such as age, finishing moves etc. Any feedback is appreciated! This has been Taker Mark, The Buddist
Guest Coffin Surfer Report post Posted May 3, 2002 Kawada is the man. He is perhaps one of the greatest sellers the sport has ever known. His finishers and trademark moves are the Powerbomb w/slide pin, Stretch Plum(dragon sleeper with neck wrench), Yakuza Kick, Sheer Drop Back Suplex, and Rolling Wheel Kick(I believe thats the name). The biggest problem american fans have with him, is he is a little slow. But a Taker mark should have no problem with that. His matches are long, stiff, and feature some of the more brutal headrops in the history of the sport. Some legendary matches of his to check out are: Misawa/Kawada 6/3/94 Misawa/Kawada 7/24/95 Kobashi/Kawada 1/19/95 Here's a picture
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted May 3, 2002 He also does a Sheer Drop Brain Buster and jumping round house kick to the face.

The 6/9/95 and 12/6/96 tag matches are way better and would be more accessible to a first time viewer IMO.

Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted May 11, 2002 More recent good Kawada matches would be Kawada vs Mutoh and Kawada vs Tenzan, both are on the All Japan VS New Japan tape.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Kawada vs. Tenzan from that tape is an ignored classic, no one seemed to notice what an old-school AJPW style match it was and why that made it so great. Better than both Mutoh matches on that tape if you ask me, read my review here for more... http://411wrestling.com/videos/article.phtml?videos_id=105 *cheap plug*

A decent match no doubt but Tenzan's selling really spoils it, I'd rate it in the ***1/2 range. Tosh's match with Kojima a few days earlier was better IMO
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted May 11, 2002 But they set up that Tenzan wasn't going to sell shots to the head in the early going, therefore his selling made sense in the context of the match. I wanna see that Kojima match as well, I've heard good things.
Guest MrDanger Report post Posted May 11, 2002 No selling is no selling, the whole out on his feet stuff ruined would could have been a great match.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted May 12, 2002 I watched that and I was like "WTF? Why does he keep no selling EVERY kick!?" Is Tenzan a regular no seller?
Guest TopSecretMan Report post Posted May 12, 2002 You didn't look THAT hard for pictures of him, did you? http://images.google.ca/images?q=toshiaki+kawada&hl=en
Guest MrDanger Report post Posted May 12, 2002 Is Tenzan a regular no seller? Not these days, actually his selling was a thing of beauty in the Tenkoji vs Tosh/Nagai match last September.
Guest Report post Posted May 14, 2002 Kawada is a master at this sport. His selling of moves is just perfect. I once saw him take a Tiger Driver '91 from Misawa that made me want to vomit in terror, he sold it like it he was just in a car wreck. (How's that for hyperbole?!)
