More details on Goldberg's buyout

Submitted by William Martinez on Friday, May 3, 2002 at 4:03 PM EST

As of yesterday, negotiations for the services of Goldberg appeared to be in the direction of New Japan Pro Wrestling rather than the WWF. There is also the possibility that Goldberg will work for Pride, a shoot fighting promotion.

Good Riddance, you Big, Bald Bastard! Go over to Japan and find out what being Stiff is all about!

That's good to hear, God knows what kind of problems Goldberg would have caused backstage in the WWF.

this makes very little sense to me.  goldberg doesn't really like wrestling in the first place...why would he wrestle halfway across the world to get the shit stiffed out of him & fight guys with a style he isn't compatible with AT ALL?  i don't really buy it.

Well Goldberg at one point supposedly said he wanted to do a UFC show but WCW wouldn't let him. So if he wanted to do it then i'm sure he'd still want to try shootfighting. Also Goldberg supposedly has some sort of martial arts training so i guess it very possible that he's wanting to see what he can do.

If Goldberg were to go to Japan and sign with Pride, I could see him making Pride a draw here in the US. At least at first. If he got his ass kicked the first fight, the appeal and draw of Goldberg would be greatly diminished.
