Guest TheDames7 Posted May 3, 2002 Report Posted May 3, 2002 I got my ticket this morning for a 3:30 AM showing at the infamous Ziegfield theater in NYC. It will be the second showing at the theater after the movie debuts....and to think, I'm not even that big of a fan, some of my friends are though and they convinced me to go. Dames - Succumbs to Peer Pressure
Guest pochorenella Posted May 3, 2002 Report Posted May 3, 2002 Lucky bastard. You better give it a good review right after you watch it, or else... Even though I'm dying to see it (Spider-Man, also) I'll wait about a week or so after it opens. Peace.
Guest razazteca Posted May 3, 2002 Report Posted May 3, 2002 so Star Wars will be played 24-7 in NYC? Do you think Episode 2 will be any better than Jar Jar Binks Excellent Adventure?
Guest TheDames7 Posted May 3, 2002 Report Posted May 3, 2002 If I do a review...it will be on the site which will be up by then. How do you like them cheap plugs huh? As for whether or not it will be better then Ep 1...the TV commercials ALONE make me believe it will be INFINITELY better than Ep 1. Dames - MUST KILL JAR JAR
Guest evenflowDDT Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 I'm not really looking forward to Episode 2 at all (too... much... CGI...). I wasn't even going to see it at all, to which my friends replied, "And what kind of movie critic would that make you be?!". Damn double standards that say people can't write about movies unless they've seen [insert LOOOOONG list of "classics" here]. None of which I've seen by the way...
Guest TheDames7 Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 I could give 2 shits about the CGI....all I care about is Anakin's slow transformation from full baby face to tweener to heel.....and from the TV spots alone, it looks GREAT. Dames - Booked Episode 3
Guest RetroRob215 Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 The CGI bothers me too, but I'll see the movie anyway because it's MOTHER FUCKING STAR WARS~!
Guest El Satanico Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 I actually don't think that the cgi looks that bad in this one. I agree that alot of it didn't look that good in episode 1. However i don't mind CGI in a movie like this. Movies like this that has stuff in them that can't be made using real world fx. These are the movies that i have no problem using alot of cgi. I mean it's star wars and the stuff in it doesn't exist so no matter what kind of fx it uses the veiwer has to suspend their disbelief to enjoy it. I honestly don't see any harm in using cgi to make the impossible a reality. Also even if they used real world fx they would still use alot of the blue screen so it in reality would end up being just as fake. I'm a horror fan and enjoy real world fx over cgi. But most horror movies are "reality" based and usually has things in them that can be done well without cgi. Fantasy and sci fi movies usually aren't based on reality and feature many things that simply can't be made well without cgi. CGI isn't any different then when old movies used painted backgrounds to give the illusion of places the movie never could be filmed at. CGI, Blue screen and painted backgrounds are all basically the same. When any of them are used well and are made well that it looks great. When any of them are made poorly or used badly it will look like shit.
Guest goodhelmet Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 The CGI bothers me too, but I'll see the movie anyway because it's MOTHER FUCKING STAR WARS~! Exactly... it's motherfucking Star Wars!!!! Since school will be out, I'll probably check it out three or four or five times in the first week.
Guest razazteca Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 Episode 1 has corrupted my mind, and most likely will not see it opening weekend, I might see it on a week day without the big crowds. I'll wait patiently for a review from the main site or at this forum.
Guest Flyboy Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 Sweet... sweet... sweet. Although, it may have a bit of CGI.. screw it. It's Star Wars! Plus, I've heard the book on tape AND read the book, so yeah... I know. :-d
Guest Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 dames, why do you always put soem gay reference to your post, after your post? Just wondering --Rob
Guest Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 The sense of hype for Episode 2 is zero compared to Ep 1. It has more of a "sci-fi sequel" then a "Star Wars sequel" feeling. The movie looks good, but the hype and sense of excitment is much less. I'll see it opening weekend, but I won't have to preorder tickets, I bet they'll be available at most theatres.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 dames, why do you always put soem gay reference to your post, after your post? Just wondering --Rob I like Dames' custom-sigs at the end of each post! Anyway, back to the CGI thing, it's not that CGI itself is a bad thing, its just that I saw some of the settings and vehicles and stuff in the trailer and it just looked a little TOO glossy and TOO fake. Now watch, irony comes calling and the stuff I don't like for being TOO fake and refined looking are really the practical effects that I know and love
Guest TheDames7 Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 dames, why do you always put soem gay reference to your post, after your post? Just wondering --Rob Because I find it entertaining. If you don't...oh well. Dames - DEAL WITH IT.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted May 4, 2002 Report Posted May 4, 2002 Anyway, back to the CGI thing, it's not that CGI itself is a bad thing, its just that I saw some of the settings and vehicles and stuff in the trailer and it just looked a little TOO glossy and TOO fake. Exactly, judging from the trailer most of the action will be CGI. A little bit is OK, like in Spiderman, but Ep. 2 looks like it will have too much.
Guest pochorenella Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 Exactly, judging from the trailer most of the action will be CGI. A little bit is OK, like in Spiderman, but Ep. 2 looks like it will have too much You have to realize that most scenes cannot be done unless it's CGI so that's vital for a movie like Episode II. I do agree that the hype is less that for Episode I but damn, people are already in line to get tickets, that's loyalty! I'll definitely see it several times, just not on opening week. I'll always be a Star Wars fan.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 This just in Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader. That might upset and suprise people but it's been common knowledge for 22 years.

That's because Ep. 1 was the first Star Wars movie in 16 years, as opposed to Ep. 2 only being 3 years since the last movie. And I've got my tickets, too. I'll be seeing it 5/18.

And I've got my tickets, too. I'll be seeing it 5/18. The sense of excitment shouldn't be low just because Episode 1 came out 3 years ago. When Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi originally came out, the hype and excitment for each one was equally huge. Episode 2 SHOULD have had the same feeling as Episode 1, but it doesn't. Either people don't care as much about Star Wars, or Episode 1 being an average movie has lowered everyones expectations.
Guest cabbageboy Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 Why would anyone order movie tickets? Anyway, Attack of the Clones looks pretty good from the previews. At least it looks like it has a comprehensible story, which is more than I can say for Phantom Menace. I watched the movie twice and I don't even know what the fuck the Phantom Menace even is! What is with these titles anyway? I mean the Phantom Menace sounds like a 40s serial to me, certainly not a blockbuster movie. Attack of the Clones sounds like a B grade sci-fi movie from the 50s. Think about how lame those titles are compared to THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK or RETURN OF THE JEDI. Besides the lame titles, the new movies have something built in working against them: we all know how part 3 will end. It's a given that Annakin turns heel and becomes Vader, so it is tough to root for him at certain crucial points (such as when he races for his freedom in the desert).
Guest RetroRob215 Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 It's a given that Annakin turns heel and becomes Vader, so it is tough to root for him at certain crucial points. I disagree with that. I always liked Darth Vader more than the rest of the characters in the original Star Wars movies. Just like how Darth Maul was my favorite character in the Episode 1. I'm sure many people have no problem rooting foe heels...at least I don't.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 It's not like he's not doing good things before he turns evil. I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I want to see hoe Anakin crosses over to the dark side.

It's a given that Annakin turns heel and becomes Vader, so it is tough to root for him at certain crucial points Well i'm sure at the time people laughed at Empire Strikes Back and Return of a Jedi as being cheesy b movie titles. So just because now something seems classic doesn't mean it always was. Besides it should have titles like this. Star Wars was influenced by those short movies for kids that were popular in 40's and 50's(i can't recall what they are called) which Lucas grew up on. Most of them had what would now be considered cheesy titles. Not to mention the "cheesy" names of Sci fi movies of the 50's. So i like the "cheesy" titles for Star Wars movies as it's a reference to the past. The known and expected evil turn of Anakin isn't that big of a deal. The Star Wars fans will love to see how and why Anakin went to the dark side. And as Titanic proved the general public will go see movies even if the outcome was already known.
Guest Posted May 7, 2002 Report Posted May 7, 2002 Anakin, Shmanakin. I'm looking forward to seeing the origin of Boba Fett and his father Jango Fett. Have you seen the commercials on TV? It's a 30 second "Jango/Boba Fett" mark-a-thon.
Guest pochorenella Posted May 7, 2002 Report Posted May 7, 2002 Besides it should have titles like this. Star Wars was influenced by those short movies for kids that were popular in 40's and 50's(i can't recall what they are called) which Lucas grew up on I believe they're called "Pulp films", and you're quite right on that account. Personally, I like the title.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted May 7, 2002 Report Posted May 7, 2002 I like Phantom Menance, but Attack of the Clones sounds like a name that would be given to a cheap rip-off of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted May 7, 2002 Report Posted May 7, 2002 I think they're getting lazy with the trailers and other assorted commercials. For episode three there's going to just be a black screen with 'Look, it's Star Wars. Just go see the damn movie! It's the law!' in bold white letters
Guest Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 It's not like he's not doing good things before he turns evil. I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I want to see hoe Anakin crosses over to the dark side. Anakin holds his mother in his arms as she dies, then decides to take out his rage on a bunch of innocent Tusken Raider women and children. Darth Tyranus severs his right arm at the elbow. He's buried under a huge crane, only to be rescued by Yoda (similar to the X-Wing/swamp thing in ESB). He also defies the Jedi code by marrying Padme on Naboo. This is the end of the movie. Chancellor Palpatine and Count Dooku are double agents waging the separatist war. They are secretly working together under their Dark Side aliases, Darth Sidious and Darth Tyranus. This is revealed after Tyranus escapes a lightsaber fight with Yoda. Mace Windu kills Jango Fett. Boba therefore grows up to hate Jedi. Anybody else know more?
Guest The Electrifyer Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 I'm downloading Episode 2 right now off Kazaa. I can't wait, I gotta watch this movie ASAP. Although the name sucks, its Star Wars and I just can't wait to see it.
