Glenn Close is joining the cast of "The Shield" in season four, playing the role of "Monica Rawling" the new police captain at the Barn when the show starts it's fourth season in the spring of 2005. According to the article, she'll be in all 13 episodes of the season and that her character will have a controversial agenda that will result in her giving Vic even more authority than he already has to carry out her unspecified plans for the Farmington district.

Next Season... The Last?

No, that's not a typo. Word from Fox Studios is that the next season may be the final season, as early story-lines submitted weeks ago show that the series may not have enough "shock-value steam" to press on for a 5th season. Not to mention one executive has recently said he would rather see Rescue Me take the Tuesday spot after last season's so-called "brawl with the mob" storyline went in the standard format of "Vic Mackey doing whatever he wants with no consequences." Whether this story is true or not has yet to be seen, as fans are having an even more difficult time getting a hold of script-work this year than previous years.

The Shield's signed for another 2 seasons I believe. While I'm all for ending the show before it goes stale, they're 41 episodes in (15 in season 3) and they haven't hit a bad one yet (although some may argue "Day One").

I'm not at all worried about The Shield running out of ideas.
