Guest Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Was the Frankensteiner merely the name that Scott Steiner gave the rana, or is there an actual difference between the two? Also, I read on one website that a rana is only a rana if it ends up in a pinning position. If that's the case, what is it if you don't do the pin? Thanks in advance. Guest muzanisa Report post Posted May 4, 2002 When Scott Stenier first used a Frankensteiner he would throw someone to the ropes and then jump up, legs round neck etc etc. He used this as one of his finishers. Rana's have been used for ages now in Mexico, Europe and Japan. I believe it is only referred to as a Hurricanrana if members of a certain family do it. Frankensteiners are now ranas off the top rope (on the video games at least) . Steiner did commentary one time and when someone executed a Rana and it was called he said soemthing like "what do you mean hurricanrana that's a Frankensteiner and you know it. Dace59 can probably give you the whole history; so if he hasn't replied in a week personal message him.
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Yep... the basic is.. The move is called Rana, originally, it was only called a Hurricanrana if (someone I can't remember does it) And it's only a Frankensteiner if a Steiner does it.. but that isn't done anymore. Also, Rana was the Mexican (aslo the Japanese one, but is noted as being Mexican) name for it, FrankenSteiner the American.. that also isn't try anymore. Also, a Rana would go into a cradle pin.. and Frankenstiener wouldn't, the opp. would just be flat on their back, and the attacker would sit back for the pin (becuase it was bigger guys like Steiner, or if done of the top, both people on top) Again.. not the case anymore. And I've seen the names been used visa verca while there was an so called different between them. And as both pins used are not special or inovated, and have been used before as just part of roll up spots.. it doesn't matter to the move which one you do. This makes them the SAME MOVE, whatever you call them. A Hurricanrana, a Frankenstiener they're the same thing.. however you call/do them.. but Rana is the widely used and accepted name. And video games aren't a good source for names unless you know you're moves.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Is Rey Misterio Jr's Rana, the one with the roll through and Misterio sitting on top with one leg cradle the orginal form?
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted May 5, 2002 Is Rey Misterio Jr's Rana, the one with the roll through and Misterio sitting on top with one leg cradle the orginal form? I doubt it, but he made it famous/popular in the states.
Guest Report post Posted May 5, 2002 When Steiner got huge and still tried to do the 'Steiner, it was hard to watch. I must have cringed a dozen times watching him do it because he always landed right on his neck. Damn fool.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted May 5, 2002 It's called a hurricanrana whenever a relative of Hurricane Ramierez does it. ::::: hides "The Buzz on Professional Wrestling" behind his back ::::: What?
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted May 5, 2002 Is Rey Misterio Jr's Rana, the one with the roll through and Misterio sitting on top with one leg cradle the orginal form The Orginal form has BOTH legs cradled, like in th games.. but it's hard to hit it perfect and get both legs every time. It's called a hurricanrana whenever a relative of Hurricane Ramierez does it That would be who I was thinking off.. it was the case.. but no one takes any notice of it any more. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 7, 2002 Anyone ever seen a Dragonrana?
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted May 7, 2002 Yes.. of course (clips, vids, games).. why do you ask? Very great and skillful move.. Rey Jr. does a great Springboard version... Dragon Kid did a springboard version to SUWA once, SUWA caught him, powerbombed him, Dragon Kid reversed it back into a Rana, then SUWA re-reversed into a rolling powerbomb (justed a seated sunset flip really). His Dragon Ray is cool too.. He runs up the tunbuckles, jumps backwards, catches the opp. and Rana's him as he's moving backwards.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 7, 2002 I love the move too. I've only seen it from clips but it is a very impressive looking move.
Guest Dace59 Report post Posted May 7, 2002 Has anyone seen someone do a real reverse rana? (not an inverted one, where you sit on the back off the opps. neck, facing the same way, flip backwards, opp. landing on their stomach) Be where you set like a regular rana.. and then flip forwards, over the opps. head (but still holding onto them) taking them over. It hs been done, I know a few indy workers that have done it, and it's in DOA 2.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 7, 2002 AJ Styles used the DragonRana in a match against David Young, in NWA Wildside during Styles 1st title defense on tv. AJ was on the top rope did the 360, landed on Young, but time ran out, before the move could be finished.
Guest Report post Posted May 8, 2002 Dragon Kid did a springboard version to SUWA once, SUWA caught him, powerbombed him, Dragon Kid reversed it back into a Rana, then SUWA re-reversed into a rolling powerbomb (justed a seated sunset flip really). This is possibly the coolest move i've ever seen. It still doesn't seem possible (you really have to see it to believe it). Hail Toryumon! Has anyone seen someone do a real reverse rana? (not an inverted one, where you sit on the back off the opps. neck, facing the same way, flip backwards, opp. landing on their stomach) Well, Peter Parker does one in the Spider-Man movie... Hail Toryumon I know.. it fucking rules.. one of the great Jr. Heavyweight spots of all time. Well, Peter Parker does one in the Spider-Man movie... Cool.. Have to go see it.. I've seem lots of inverted Rana's, included Avalanche ones which look more like head bumps.. but very few Reverse Rana's.
