Undertakers finest bouts...

Recommended Posts

Guest

Im just wondering, myself being the biggest Taker Mark here in Smarkville, what are everyone else's fondest Undertaker Matches? Im also looking to buy some older WWF Videos, Taker in his older days, although ive seen almost all of Undertaker's matches, i don't own all of his very best work within the ring...

All suggestions are appreciated!

HIAC with HBK, it's on the Taker DVD, which I'm guessing you already have.

Their match at Ground Zero the month before is apparently *****, I haven't seen it because I can't find the god damn tape anywhere and believe me I've looked all over the place for it.

They never released Hell In The Cell 1 in Australia, therefore i have never seen it, which im VERY angry about...

However, im currently saving for a DVD Player, i already OWN the Taker:This is my yard DVD, yet i have not been able to play it just yet...

I know a place where you can get Ground Zero SUPER CHEAP if your an American...

A New Zealand site, www.wwf.co.nz ( Fight Club ), is a site with a huge library of WWF Videos, including Ground Zero, goto the Catalouge area and do a search on Vids released in 1997..

Or you could follow this...

http://www.fightclub.co.nz/lasso....-search

Either way, it should work.

I have yet to see their Ground Zero match either, ive always liked Summerslam 1997 where Taker took on Bret Hart.

Pretty much any match he had against Mankind, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart (after 1996) or Steve Austin (before 1999) is guaranteed to be pretty good.  My personal favorite is against Stone Cold at Summerslam '98.

The Undertaker vs. Bret Hart match from One Night Only (97) really is an awesome match.  The WWF never released that match in the US though.

Badd Blood with Michaels/Taker HIAC WAS released in Australia. I purchased an ex-rental copy from Video Ezy here in Sydney. In fact Video Ezy will sell their "weekly" videos if you ask 'em.

I've purchased about 15 ex-rental for $4.95 each.

For the Taker mark- Here's my review of the Austin-Takwr match

Austin gets a mega-pop. Austin slugs away- Taker chucks him into corner and punches away. Austin slugs away but gets clotheslined-2. Austin flips him off. Lockup- Austin works on arm. Taker reverses. Rollup-2. Armbar by Austin. Austin boots him. Taker gets suplex. Legdrop misses- Stungun by Taker-2. Taker kicks his ass. Austin comes back and works on knee. Austin slugs away- Take gets flying lariat and chokes him. Taker goes Old School but gets armdragged off. Austin works on knee and OH MY GAWD! OH MY GAWD! THROUGH HELL FIRE AND BRIMSTONE IT’S KANE! MY GAWD THE FURY. Taker sends him to the back. Slugfest- Taker wins. Austin works on knee more. Chokeslam by Taker- Austin clotheslines him out. Brawl on the outside and into the crowd. Austin goes for piledriver but gets backdropped. Back in- Taker blocks Stunner and bails. Austin flies out after him- Taker catches him and rams him into steps. Austin fights back but gets chucked out. Brawl on the outside- Taker lays him out on the Spanish Announce Table. He then does a legdrop from the top rope through the table. OH. MY. GOD. HOLY SHIT! Back in- it only gets two. Blind charge by Taker misses but he kills him more. Double clothesline- both out. Slugfest- Austin wins. Thesz Press and FU Elbow by Austin. Austin gets weird neckbreaker-2. Chokeslam- Austin blocks tombstone but gets crotched on ropes. Russian legsweep- Taker goes Old School. Austin lowblows him coming down. KICK WHAM STUNNER wins it. ***1/2 These guys busted ass and produced a fun match. Post-match Taker gives him the belt and walks off as him and Kane look on at a celebrating Austin.

HITC with HBK is my favorite match ever. The Ground Zero one is pretty good also but it can't touch the Badd Blodd match.

I've never seen the one from One Night Only ( I have the commercial tape) but I hear it's pretty good too.

No shit, that's his best ever... but the finish pisses me off.

All that everyone mentioned plus...

Even if it wasn't exactly HIS match, the match he debuted in at SS90 was good.

I liked the match against Hogan at SS91.

I'm surprised the match against Vader at Canadian Stampede wasn't mentioned, I liked it.

Sue me if you want, I liked the inferno match with Kane at Vengeance(?)-the April 98 ppv.

I'll also agree with who said that the match against Nash at WM12 is underrated.

Maybe I was watching a different match, but Austin/Taker from Summer Slam '98 was nothing special, in my opinion. It just came off as very sloppy and spot-intensive. I could see that the effort was there, but the crispness that you usually get from Austin seemed to be absent. Even the brawling seemed rather weak, and the match structure itself just bothered me. I'm all for Taker busting his ass and bringing the high spots, but the leg-drop spot just seemed really out of place to me in that match. Oh well, as a match, I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't go above **3/4. Then again, I don't think I've ever seen a Taker/Austin match (and there are a LOT of them) that I would give *** or higher, so it might just be a personal disliking for those two together.

I almost said the same thing, but alas, I was afraid of being entombed in flame by saying good things about a Kane-Taker match, most of which I've thoroughly enjoyed.

Im sure it was released in certain area's of Australia, but not in mine. Plus the only close WWF Video shop, Fight Club ( http://www.wwf.co.nz ) , does not stock the video, Which is unfortunate.

If you're an Undertaker mark then everything mentioned.

If you want to stay an UT mark avoid anything with Sid, Giant Gonzales, Kamala or Yokozuna.

The HIAC match is downloadable on Kazaa. Actually I'm surprised not to see the King of the Ring matchw/Foley not on this list. That one is on Kazaa too. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll put mine back in my shared folder.

All the matches above basically and the most underrated Taker match....

Summerslam 97. Definately. I LOVE that match. I don't see why Keith gave it so low (like *** 1/2 or something) when I have watched that match at least 3 times and I know it's *****.

I always liked Taker and Austin when Austin's working as a heel, because those two either both as face or with Taker as the heel always seemed to fall flat with me.

Austin and Taker had 2 good (for a 96 Raw) matches back in the summer of 96, but since it seemed to be all downhill. Cold Day in Hell was ok, but it was nothing I'd call a classic. Same with SummerSlam 98. The build for this match is one of the best ever. It was the last time I actually had butterflies in my stomach on the day of the PPV...but IMO the match they had didn't live up to the hype. Austin himself even said that he was off a bit in that match due to some accidental headbutt by Taker knocking him silly. And then Buried Alive sucked, Over the Edge was ok...probably would've been better had Owen not died and the rest of the matches they had in 99 just sucked. My favorite match between the two of them was their match at last years Judgment Day with Austin as the heel. It started out a little slow, but it got better as the match progressed.

As for my favorite Taker matches, I'd say his matches with HBK from HIAC , Ground Zero and the Rumble, pretty much any match he's had with Bret, Mankind from KOTR 96, their Street fight from Nov. 96 Raw, and Revenge of the Taker, both Inferno matches with Kane, the one with Vader from Canadian Stampede was nice, his match with Diesel from WM12 and against HHH from X-7.

I seem to enjoy the Taker-Austin matches even though Backlash sucked monkey shit.

The Fully Loaded 99 match I really enjoyed- it was just a hot match with some good psychology.

Taker-Mankind from Survivor Series 96 is really good- it was cool to see Taker finally get the upper hand.

hmmm...you know, Undertaker is a very talented wrestler when he is motivated, seeing by how man acual good matches he has had going through the years. In 2000 to mid 2k1, he was really lazy, almost, sluggish, which made people lose interest in him, but...

...he still is very talented. Check out Summerslam 97, I <3 that match so damn much!

Undertaker was a talented big man with strong ring presence. That is all. He was carried to some great brawls by Michaels, Folley, and a few others over the years, but minor bright spots aside his matches were okay at best and downright horrible at worst. And the only reason Diesel/Taker is "underrated" is because everyone instinctively thinks "negative five stars!" when they hear that match.
