Wwe: who cares...

Everybody seems to be in a big hoopla over the name change of the WWF to WWE. All I can say is big whoop. It's still the same thing, only with ONE LETTER in the name changed. Why such the big deal? Actually, the REAL crime here is that the product's still the same (GET THE F'N TITLE OFF HOGAN).

Absolutely.  The only thing that's going to be even remotely different is one letter.  And the little note beneath the title of this forum is ridiculous..."Because it was never about the wrestling anyway"?  Um...I think "wrestling" is still in the name of the company.  That's what the second "W" stands for.  And it's not as if this is a voluntary move on the part of the WWF, as all of their brand recognition is based on that name and they stand to lose a considerable amount of money in the switchover to the new one.  So for smart marks to act as if this is a move on the part of the McMahons to extract the wrestling from their company a little more is, as usual, silly and blown ridiculously out of proportion.

I agree with you, but it's the principle off the whole thing.  You have 2 groups, one that has entertained me for the last 14 years and one that fucks pandas and the Panda Fuckers get the name.  That sucks IMO.  Thw WWF letters are far more important to Vince than to a non-profit animal group.  Vince is going to lose a lot of money out of this, the Panda fuckers would lose next to nothing if they changed their name to.  All the Panda guys would need to do is send out a news letter to their doners explaining the name change, Vince now has to go the Chyna/Sable route of constantly correcting everyone who calls it WWF for fear of lawsuits for the Wildlife Fund.

I also think people are making a big deal about this. Although the name sounds weird. But I think had the WWF (Wrestling) "re-named" themselves WWFE, people might not be as vocal as they are. Since the WWF would use the coporate name of the company.

It's amusing since "killing the WWF" has been the subject of so many angles and egos. Now it's actually happened.

It's just something small, but it's something that many thought wouldn't happen or couldn't imagine happening. The sad thing is Vince owns so many brands in WCW, ECW, even the nWo. He's played his cards wrong with every one of them though and now has to go make up a new one.

It sure will be weird the first time someone says "I want a shot at the WWE title!" I wonder how often people will slip up and say WWF. It's so weird for it to not be called anymore. It's not really a big deal, but it's all I've ever known it as and is going to take some getting used to.

Hell, why not just go back to the old WWWF? BTW, they need a new logo, cuz the WW thing just looks plain weird.

It really is a big deal, IMO, cuz they're ending an era. The first era in the WWF's expansion began when the name was changed to WWF from WWWF. The second began when Hogan left and continued with that lame block logo. And the last era began with Attitude and the scratch logo.

Still, non-wrestling fans have no idea what the WWE is so it'll be hard to explain it to them.

It kind of reminds me of Star Wars actually. That same weird chrome silvery-bronze look.

The WWE name is still going to cause confusion among many fans and non-fans for a while, don't think we'll all get used to it as soon as it starts.  And because of the name change, the WWE will lose a lot of money again which makes the chances of another big wrestling promotion dying even greater since the ratings are down now, and I'd hate to not see wrestling on TV anymore.

I'm kinda on the fence with this one. On the one hand, yes, it's just a name and 6 months from now the fans probably won't think twice about the name change.

On the other hand, the ubiquitous "Entertainment" makes what we watch seem less like a sport and more like a spectacle. I know the term "sports entertainment" has been bandied about for so long, but just hearing the name "World Wrestling Federation" gave it a feeling of something above the spectacle, something to be taken a little bit more seriously. It used to be about the athleticism. Now, it's just entertainment. Hell, it's hardly that nowadays, but I digress.

It also sounds goofy calling the standard bearer of the company the "World Wrestling Champion". Sounds like something from a B-movie or a kiddie cartoon. Of course, it also sounds goofy when the champ's Hulkl Hogan, but again I digress.  ;)

These times they are a-changin'...

As much as everyone wants to blame the World Wildlife Fund (who are hypocrites in their own right - a Wildlife fund that supports animal testing, what the fuck?). As much as it's going to suck having to get used to WWE over WWF. As much as all of this just plain sucks PEROID, we only have one person to blame and that's Vince himself. He knew the deal. He knew that he wasn't supposed to use the name outside of the US. I'm surprised they didn't get him sooner with this. Maybe this will teach him a lesson. Or then again, maybe it will just make him into even more of an ignorant and arrogant asshole than he already is.

This really sucks.  Not because of the name, I couldn't care less about that but Vince is now going to have to prove how big of a man he is.  Some group got the better of him so he is going to have to show that nobody messes with him.  I see more sketches with Stacy and Vince getting more and more disturbing.

While predictably, people are just venting their usual crap on Vince, step back for a second and look at the big picture. American company Yahoo Communications has been embroiled in months of legal battles with European courts over the sale of Nazi memorabilia on their auction sites. Elcomsoft in Russia is being charged under the USA's anti-infringement DMCA law. There are plenty of other examples. You people seem to think that Vince should have had the foresight to know how the internet was going to be policed, when no one else could see it either.
