Guest converge241 Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 most chains only did 1 or 2 free books!!!! the store i used to run put out the 4 books that the publishers printed AND they put out tons of crappy overstock (xforce 1, xmen 1, heroes reborn) and still said you could only pick two.. i didnt really care, but the whole point was to capitialize on the spidey movie and get some new customers into the stores...kids specifically.. how would you feel if you were joe schmoe and you see ads in the paper and stories on the news about free comic book day.. and you can only pick one while you have piles of the stuff collecting dust in the stores and warehouses!!!!!!!!!! trust me they are! I know firsthand!!
Guest starvenger Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 From what I understand, the comic stores still had to pay for the books, thus their reluctance to give away several at once.
Guest Karnage Posted May 6, 2002 Report Posted May 6, 2002 I was expecting to see some of the smaller press comics, but at the comicshops I went to, they only carried the big 4.
Guest starvenger Posted May 7, 2002 Report Posted May 7, 2002 I managed to get Stray Bullets from my local store. It's got a pretty cool Matrix story on the flipside.
Guest areacode212 Posted May 7, 2002 Report Posted May 7, 2002 I am freaking pissed because the Stray Bullets/Matrix book was the one I wanted the most (more for the Matrix part; I already have the SB book in hardcover), and MY STORE DIDN'T HAVE IT!!! Oh, well. At least I got to see the KICKASS~! Spider-Man movie afterwards, so it wasn't that big a deal. Also, if I were DC, I would have chosen Catwoman #1 or the latest issue instead of the subpar Justice League Adventures.

Guest Karnage Posted May 7, 2002 Report Posted May 7, 2002 You think the stores with a lot of leftover comics are still giving them out?
Guest areacode212 Posted May 8, 2002 Report Posted May 8, 2002 If they did have leftover issues, I wouldn't think they'd actually try to sell comics with the words "FREE COMIC BOOK DAY" printed on them (though not all the titles actually had that).
Guest converge241 Posted May 8, 2002 Report Posted May 8, 2002 the tomb raider one is actually going for $$$ due to it being short printed (has to have been a ploy to create interest)
