Bret Hart comments

Recommended Posts

I was listening to 102.1 The Edge this morning here in Toronto and they had Bret Hart as a guest promoting his upcoming play Aladdin at the Elgin theatre. Here are some highlights from his interview:

-They started off the interview by telling him he was a great Canadian and Bret said one of the highlights of his career was being on the cover of a Pizza Pizza box.

-He spoke a lot about his stroke and that no one knows for sure why he got a stroke but getting kicked in the head by Bill Goldberg and all his concussion problems because of it didn't help.

-People come up to him all the time and tell him how great and strong he looks, and even Bret himself is surprised at how well he's recovered from the stroke.

-But he said the wrestling part of him is gone and that the problem with today's wrestling is that it is too corporate and instead of letting the wrestlers write their own promos it's one person in the back who is writing them, all the promos sound the same.

-Said he was the one who came up with his own gimmick, and from the start of the bell to the finish he came up with the match, too.

-Said he was raised into wrestling and was selling programs at the age of 5, way before Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair entered wrestling.

-Said when they offered him the play he wasn't sure if he would be ready for it but decided to do it because it was around Christmas and he liked the idea of working with kids.

-Was #39 on the Greatest Canadians list and said he was very proud of that.

-He talked a lot about protecting his opponent in the ring and not injuring any of his opponents, not a broken bone, or a broken nail, nothing.

Talked about Vince McMahon and said in his career he is best known as the guy who punched Vince. Said he got two broken knuckles out of it but it was worth the injury.

That's pretty much all I remember. But it was a great 15-minute interview.

I was a pretty big fan of Bret years ago. But I just get tired of hearing his name now. Seems like he pops up every now and then in interviews and basicaly says nothing or just rehashes other interviews.

He can only respond to the questions he's asked. As much as we'd like to move on from certain incidents, and I'm sure Bret would rather leave them alone too, it's still what the people he gets interviewed by want to ask him about.

It's kind of hard for Bret to say anything else considering he's retired and has nothing new to say about people.

I simply skimmed this because he's mentioned almost everything at least once in the past.
