Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Looks like I'm going to need Texas to hold on to avoid going 0 for 6 on the Thursday and Friday games. God damn I suck this week. Looking like we might have four forfeits this week which I'm very dissapointed about. Two of them are Top 10 teams and that could really mess with the bowl picture and the Top 10. teke184 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Bored, what kind of impact will Ohio State's forfeit and Washington State's loss have on the at-large bids?
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Gert picked in KKK's contest, wonder why he didn't for this one? Bored if Boise St. was bowl eligible would they have been in the conf. tourney and what Boise St's record since i starting picking their games.
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Boise will finish in 2nd place in the Pac-8 so they would have been in the conference title game. They are either 7-2 or 7-3 since you took over as I forget if it was Week 3 or Week 4. I think you've won five in a row with them. As for the at-large bids I think this might kill Ohio State's chances. bravesfan still submitted picks so he should still end up in a bowl game although his ranking will probably take a decent hit. Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 With Wazzu's loss, Hawaii clinches a spot in the Pac-8 title game to play UCLA. Woohoo! I have been hoping to get another chance at UCLA since my first game vs UCLA was easily my worst game of this competition. (I lost 13-9.) Now, if either Viriginia Tech or Maryland holds on to win today, I'll be really happy.
Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 It looks like Maryland just beat Wake Forest 13-7 in what had to be one of the WORST games I have ever followed.
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 And you win your game because of it as you will at least win by tiebreak and become bowl eligible. You and teke's replacement picks split evenly on tiebreak #1 but you had Tyler Palko's passing yards exactly right at 165.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Assuming Mississippi can hang on, I'm down to needing Rice to beat La Tech to advance to the title game...
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Updated thru UVA/VaTech: #2 Minnesota (Vern Gagne) def. #6 Ohio State (Gert T) by forfeit Kent State (JHawk) def. Penn State (therealworldschampion) by forfeit West Virginia (Bored/*dead team*) def. Florida State (2GOLD) by forfeit Boise State (Vern Gagne/*dead team*) def. #5 Washington State (bravesfan) #8 Hawaii (Will Scarlet) def. Michigan State (teke184/*dead team*) Florida (Agent Bond34) def. Alabama (AlwaysPissedOff) Because of Alabama's loss, LSU clinches a spot in the Mid South title game to play Georgia. All that is left now is to settle the Big Atlantic mess.
teke184 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 The sad/funny thing is that a loss by my alma mater, Southern Miss, may seal a 10th victory for me. Failing that, Tech will have to beat Rice on Monday.
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Oh crap Louisiana Tech/Rice is MONDAY!? When did that happen? Shit, shit, shit, shit that means I have to delay next week's thread. Oh well there will only nine or ten games to make picks for.

Oh well there will only nine or ten games to make picks for. Here's an idea- Lay out the games for next week at the end of today and let people start making their picks. Only 3 games at the MOST will be determined by Rice-Tech, including ours, and none of them is involved in the Big Atlantic mess. That means it won't have a direct effect on the title game matchups. Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Monday?!? Who thought scheduling that game on a Monday would be a good idea? I figure it would have to do with TV time, but, really, if they'regoing to have two WAC teams on Monday, they should at least have had Boise St, Hawaii, Fresno St., or UTEP, or something. Anyway, I feel redeemed with my victory this week. After being much-maligned for being 2-5 and still ranked, it feels good to be 7-6, ranked, bowl-eligible, in the Pac 8 Championship game, and have a 5 game winning streak. I hope I can keep it up next week in what will prove to be a tough rematch with UCLA.
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 teke, the Syracuse/BC match-up will be decided by La Tech/Rice most likely. I could just PM everyone involved in the championship games next week to get their picks. I had already planned on having everyone involved PM their picks for the championshp games and bowl games. teke184 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 I feel about as good... I only lost three games this year and the closest of which was against Georgia (tiebreaker, IIRC). I've got a good shot at winning. Even if I don't win, the forfeits this week give me a good shot at an at-large bid to a good bowl.
teke184 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Ole Miss is up 20-3 in the 4th, so I think that Virginia may have finished off Rutgers. EDIT My mistake, they need to win 2 more games. TCU is up on Tulane, though, so things are looking good for them.

I'd rather someone cheer "What comes out of a Chinaman's ass? RICE! RICE! RICE!" (Old LSU cheer from when Rice was a rival. Not very PC, but pretty funny.) Bored 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2004 Edit: updated through OkSt/TexTech as only one additional match-up has been decided. #2 Minnesota (Vern Gagne) def. Georgia (A_MikeSC) Notre Dame (Lando Griffin) def. USC (Cartman); Lando holds tiebreak Tennessee (Kotzenjunge) def. Texas (Flyboy) Bowling Green (iggymcfly) def. Michigan (Mad Dog) Miami (Spaceman Spiff) def. Maryland (MarvinisaLunatic) Teke and I have picked so poorly this week that bravesfan actually has one more correct pick than us despite losing out on the Thursday and Friday games. Maybe bravesfan won't be dropping in the rankings after all.

Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2004 Quick question: How exactly did Oregon beat Georgia? It seems like Oregon missed 2, lost one, and got 3 right, and Georgia had won the tiebreak. I am just curious...

One thing I've learned -- beating someone ranked above you doesn't mean a damn thing. Plus, neither of us are actually there yet.
