Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 Edit: West Virginia has accepted an invite to the Gator Bowl. So Boston College has gone from a BCS game to probably the Continental Tire Bowl. Ha. That's exactly what happened to Pitt last year. Roll with the punches, Big East.
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 It's kinda surprising they took West Virginia since they went to the Gator Bowl last year (and we're destroyed by Maryland) and lost big to B.C. just a few weeks ago. Guess the Gator Bowl didn't want a match-up that will be a conference game next year. Florida State has now accepted the invite to the Gator Bowl to play West Virginia. That means the loser of the VaTech/Miami game will go from a BCS bowl to the Peach Bowl. Not quite as dramatic as BCS bowl to the Continental Tire but still a pretty big drop off. Guess the Gator Bowl didn't want a match-up that will be a conference game next year. Probably. I imagine they were impressed with the amount of fans WVU brought last year - they have a rep for travelling really well. Read in the Washington Post today that it's looking increasingly likely that Virginia will head to the Independence Bowl, which is pleasant. Gambling boats, here I come. Syracuse is likely to be the sap that gets sent out to Boise, a reasonable fate for only going 6-5 and being the only D-I program to lose to Temple.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 16 teams is too many. 4 is just fine.
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 Stanford has fired head coach Buddy Teevens. Come on you knew a guy named "Buddy" coaching Stanford wouldn't work. Here's a bizarre rumor but I can't find a link to an article on it. Boston College is rumored to be going to the Ft. Worth Bowl. If this is true I wonder if this some sort of Big East backlash by getting their bowls to pass on BC. I would assume in this scenerio that the Continental Tire Bowl, the last Big East bowl bid, has invited Syracuse over BC. Edit: Georgia Tech accepts invite to the Tangerine Bowl. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 What about UCONN? Their bowl eligible and play in the Big East.
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 Forgot about UConn but it's all for naught now, the rumor wasn't true and Boston College has been invited to the Continental Tire Bowl. Florida is going to the Peach Bowl, Wyoming to the Las Vegas Bowl.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 So it's Florida/Florida State II in the Peach Bowl? Man, FSU's got more rematch clauses than anyone in college football.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 Whew. I was hoping I was wrong. Virginia Tech/Florida would be interesting. That's a pair of year-in-year-out good teams you never see cross paths.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2004 UConn's on their way to the Motor City Bowl. The floor's fallen through on UVA's Independence Bowl deal, because they needed Syracuse or UConn to take the MPC Computers bid. Since the game in Boise has an ACC contract, Virginia is obligated to go, as the Boise folks refuse to release the bid. So I don't get to go to a bowl game, and an 8-3 #18 team in the country has to head out west to play a game with absolutely no upside. Either they beat Fresno State and no one cares, or they lose and look like absolute champs for losing on blue turf in front of 8,000 people. The ACC seriously needs to get new bowl contracts next year. It has what are probably the two worst bowls in the country (MPC Computers in Boise and Champs Sports in Orlando), and not nearly enough marquee games for what will be a 12-team conference. Apparently the conference is going to make a play for the Cotton or Capital One Bowls, since their contracts come up for the 2005-2006 season, and such a move can't come quickly enough. If this is actually going to grow into a league on par with the SEC, then it needs far better bowl match-ups and locations that fans will actually pay to go to. 2 Big East opponents, a WAC opponent, a bottom-of-the-barrel Big XII opponent, and a mid-level SEC opponent does not an exciting post-season make. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2004 In somewhat of a surprise, the loser of the SEC Championship Game is headed to the Cotton Bowl. The Capital One has taken LSU, and the Outback has taken Georgia. Also, Virginia to the MPC Computers Bowl is now beyond speculation and into the realm of the official, with tickets onsale at the Virginia Athletics website. The Edwin Suicide Watch is on.
