Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted May 10, 2002 Gaining weight doesn't alter your shot. You lose your shot when you begin lifting weights instead of practicing your shot. Jordan's frame and Iverson's frame aren't even an issue. If you put on a little bit of muscle, collisions become less hazardous and since when did getting stronger become a negative thing in sports? Jerry Stackhouse wasn't half the player in Philly he is now,(or the last 2 years) It wasn't until 3 years ago that Jerry started living up to his potential, so that argument has nothing behind it. Was Iverson the player then that he is now? The same statement that you made could be applied to Iverson. You like to point out Iversons percentage all the time, Kidd shoots a worst percetntage than him, are you saying he is making the Nets worse??? He also has more rebounds assists and steals than Iverson does too. Iverson heaves up a lot of shots for someone with a low shot percentage. That's what I'm saying. If someone is supposed to compliment Iverson, I ask you who will do it with him taking all of those shots every night? Um...its his son!!!! Its not his hair. God forbid he want to be there for his child. How is that a lame excuse. Are you saying he should be put down for taking care of his child instead of just paying someone else to do it. You can see how much he loves spending time with his kids. In basically every post game interview, who is on the court, at the press conference with him. Even if that is the case, you seem to have conveniently disregarded the fact that his son started getting sick when Iverson was asked to give reasonable excuses for his absences. Maybe Iverson's son's sickness really was a coincidence, but I have a hard time buying that. The only people that said anything about staying out late was the media and their "sources". The same sources that "quoted" Iverson saying he was leaving Philly. I truley hope you don't invest too much into the ethics of the sport media... I don't know any sources that quoted Iverson saying he was leaving Philly. Are you saying the media lies? If that's the case, I hope you don't invest too much into the ethics of Allen Iverson, because nobody ever said he was a truthful guy. He can get up in the morning because it's his damn job. Reggie Miller spends an entire night running around screens and still manages to hit shots late in games. Going to the hole wouldn't be such a hazard for Iverson's health if he lifted some damn weights. Jordan started lifting weights the offseason before he won his frist championship. He said he did so because he was sick of taking the beating the Pistons dished out to him every year. Did his strategy pay off?" So you are saying it would be better for him to play at the level he is playing(which is lightyears above the effort alot of his teamates give on the court, BTW) and getting burned out as the season goes on, huh. No, I'm saying lift the weights in the off-season because that's what the off-season is for, especially on the professional level. He doesn't neccesarily have to continue trying to make the same gains during the season that he does in the off-season, but he should use the off-season to workout. And with all the weights Jordan lifted in the off season, I think his first championship MIGHT, and I mean just might have had something to do with Scottie Pippen improving in every aspect of the game, Phil Jackson impementing this radical new offense that the Pistons(the perverbial pimp to the bulls bitch for years) had no idea how to counter, and playing a sub par Laker team in the finals. Jackson was their coach the year before they won their championship, and the triangle offense was in place at that time. Jordan's training in the off-season contributed to him being able to take the punishment of a physical series with the Pistons. Im not saying Iverson is a angel here. If he is missing a substancial about of practices, then he should shape up, but the Sixers management(mostly Brown) are being hypocrites and are attempting to blame a subpar season on Iverson, and not the horrible team around him. Iverson and Brown have had the same issues for years, and despite the fact that Brown is the coach, he can't take responsibility for Iverson's actions. I'm not saying Iverson is a bum who can't play, but I have to agre with some of the criticism thrown his way. Management has tried to have Larry Brown and Iverson co-exist, but I believe Brown would be rplaced before Iverson because the league is more supportive of superstar players than coaches. It's hard for me to side with a player like Iverson who acted like the notion of lifting weights in the off-season was absurd. If he doesn't want to do it, he should say he doesn't want to do it instead of acting like it's not inhis best interest to do it.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 12, 2002 "He also has more rebounds assists and steals than Iverson does too." Um, Iverson averages about 3 less rebounds, 4 less assist, he leads the leage in steals and he averages about 15 more points than Kidd. Don't get me wrong, Kidd makes his players ALOT better, but you can't really try and point at the stats as a way to put down Iverson. he is basically shooting 40%, averaging over 30, nearly 6 assist, nearly 3 steals, and nearly 6 rebounds. That isn't a stat line of a guy that doesn't work hard. Add in the fact that Iverson has become a much, much better player, improving everyyear since he came in the leage, it is obvious that he works in the off season, just not the way everyone thinks how he should. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted May 13, 2002 I wasn't ever on a Sixer bandwagon. I was sick of the media and the NBA shoving Iverson and the 76ers down my throat last year.
