Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2004 He's overpaid FAR more than Renteria. He's a better player than him, so I could care less. Still doesn't explain why Jeter is being brought into this.
Guest Brian Report post Posted December 16, 2004 They're all overpaid.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 16, 2004 Renteria is being overpaid. How so? This is how it breaks down 05 - $7mill 06 - $8mill 07 - $9mill 08 - $9mill 09 - Team Option for $11mill or $3mill buyout $4mill signing bonus Seems like a good contract to me. Guest Catcher8C Report post Posted December 16, 2004 More for the Polanco comparison: Career: BA., SLG., OBP., Renteria: .289, .346, .400 Polanco: .295, .339, .
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 16, 2004 Polanco doesn't have nearly the defensive capabailities that Renteria does. Last I checked there were 3 phases of this game. Hitting the ball Catching the ball Throwing the ball
Guest Catcher8C Report post Posted December 17, 2004 OK.... Career Defense At Shortstop: FLD % Renteria: .969 (1279 games) Polanco: .982 (121 games) Also, don't forget his .990 and .981 at two other positions he can play...2nd and 3rd In case you needed any more proof why he would be a smarter choice for any team, Placido is looking for 5-7 mil a year.... So basically you could get a better, lower priced player who has been more consistent during his career to date but one who doesn't have the name value or you can have the underachiever the Cards lost. The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2004 Yeah, but at $6 million a year, the dollar difference for Polanco can make up for the defensive advantage that Renteria has. Additionally, Polanco can provide adequate defense all around the infield, which allows them to pursue options at 2B (Hairston Jr.?) or SS (Cabrera/Larkin) with the money saved.
