Dvd releases for 5/7.

I'm a little late this week, as I just finished moving and things are a little hectic.

There is a lot more stuff this week than usual, but I'm not sure if I'll be picking up all of it. As usual, these are only the released DVD's that I have specific interest in.

Any Which Way You Can:

Cult classic comedy staring Clint Eastwood and Clyde the ape. This is the definition of "for fans only". I actually picked up this DVD 2 weeks ago, and the quality is pretty good. Widescreen and 5.1 Dolby Digital.

Earth vs. Spider:

I'm only interested in this because of the B-movie storyline and Stan Winston's FX. I haven't seen it, and will probably rent it before I consider buying it.

Every Which Way You Can:

Please see Any Which Way But Loose. The same applies here.

The Last Waltz:

If you are a fan of this film, you can't miss here. The disc is loaded, including commentaries and deleted scenes.

Ocean's Eleven:

Superior remake of the 60's caper flick with a great cast, having a good time under the guidance of a talented director. Quality disc to boot, with decent features. Make sure to get the widescreen version.

Old Yeller:

Great old school Disney flick, but not for the faint of heart. It has a super sad ending, and even today I feel uncomfortable watching it. The DVD is loaded (2 discs), so if you like film it's a good deal.

The Pride and the Passion:

Fairly cheesy, over the top war flick with funky special effects. I can't really recommend it, as I only like it for it's nostalgia value from seeing it on TV as a kid, and still remembering certain scene's to this day.

Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season Two:

Second verse, same as the first. If you like TNG, and you bought Season One, then I'm sure you'll pick up this as well. The features are about the same, but the quality of the episodes should be better.

'Till next week.

wh00! Earth vs. the Spider!!! I actually rented the first in the "Creature Features" series to come out on DVD (She Creature, which was actually the last one to be produced/released on TV, where the series originated), and I was impressed.  I doubt Earth vs. the Spider will be anywhere near as good, but since the next movie I see is going to be Donnie Darko, from what I've heard of that no movies I'll be renting for a while will compare anyway.

I actually wrote a review for the She Creature disc as my trial column for TheSmartMarks, and I'll post it either tomorrow or on Thursday.  Probably tomorrow, since Wednesday is a slow day, and on Thursday it'd take away from the Smackdown recap.

Earth vs the Spider with Dan Ankroid was a good movie about a comic book fanatic who happens to work in a expermental science lab, and believes that he can become the super hero in the comics he reads, but everthing does not go as planned.  I give it a B+ for solid story and nice creature costumes.

Good job on the She Creature reveiw, I'm interested in picking up the disc one of these days.  I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to old horror/sci-fi flims.

I actually saw She-Creature tonight. I enjoyed it, the creature at the end was very impressive. I did find the slow build up a little too slow, but I appreciate the old school moderation. I still have to check out Earth vs. The Spider, and I'm waiting for The Day the World Ended to come on DVD.

I wouldn't buy She-Creature, but I'd recommend renting it.

As my review on the site can attest, I actually liked the build-up better than the creature... I think that's the first time that's ever happened.  Plot? What?

Thanks for the praise RetroRob... just remember that the review I wrote was for the new remake She Creature.  I've seen both though, damn the original is weird... I wonder what prehistoric killer I would regress to under hypnosis... hmmm.... ATTACK OF THE 500-FOOT COELACANTH! Yeah!
