Guest Report post Posted May 8, 2002 I just read that the DVD of Swamp Thing has been recalled. The disc is rated PG, but it's actually the uncut version, with the nude bath scene and the nude party scene. Some soccer mom picked it up at Blockbuster (what a suprise) and freaked out. Blockbuster of course banned the film, and put pressure on MGM to do the same. Either the disc will be re-issued as an "R Rated" disc or re-edited to PG "standards". Fortunately, I picked up Swamp Thing the day it was released, but if you haven't grab one now. That version may not be available again, and it's fairly cheap, at least until they start selling on eBay for $50.
Guest Mr.Perfect Report post Posted May 8, 2002 I work at Blockbuster and we had to field destroy our copy, so I took it home, maybe I should sell it.
Guest Report post Posted May 8, 2002 Blockbuster sucks ass.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted May 9, 2002 Didn't Blockbuster at one point only carry watered down versiosn of Troma films? I remember a newspaper article saying something about them having a cut version of Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD. I know Hollywood Video has the newer, "Directors Cut" Troma's, but not sure about Blockbuster. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 9, 2002 Blockbuster often refuses to carry any movie that doesn't have an MPAA rating, and ALWAYS refuses to stock anything that was rated X or NC-17. And in general they don't carry letterboxed videos. And according to Roger Ebert, they even carry special censored versions of some movies, without telling anyone the difference. And they just recently forced most of their stores to destroy, not give away, not sell, DESTROY some of their older videos in order to make room for new dvds. Not to mention that tricky "due at noon" return policy which I'm sure has made them oodles of money in late fees. Dear lord but I hate that chain.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 9, 2002 ...and that's why I rent from Hollywood, even if they don't have the greatest DVD selection. I hope that Swamp Thing is re-released in an R rated "uncut" version. Little things like that really annoy me... stupid American society and their insistence upon censorship. Guest Report post Posted May 9, 2002 I couldn't believe it when I heard BB actually edits certain films and doesn't tell customers. Another policy is if a movie has rental tapes in it, BB will actually digitally transfer the BB logo onto the tapes so it looks the like people in the movie rented from Blockbuster. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 10, 2002 Yea I was telling my dad about the Blockbuster editing thing today and he said it's always been like that because the owner of Blockbuster is this big conservative guy or something. The BB-logo imposed on the movie's tapes thing is so ludicrous and at the same time angers me so much...
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted May 11, 2002 My Blockbuster wont let me(15 yrs old) rent wwf videos because they put a "restricted viewing" label on it even after i show them my id. dumb bastards.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 11, 2002 I think you need to be 17 to rent Restricted Viewing stuff at Blockbuster. I only go to BlockBuster for new releases or to buy a DVD or tape. I rent wrestling stuff from a local video store. I think I gonna start buying DVD's at that videostore too. Fuck BlockBuster.
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted May 11, 2002 yeah i usually go to a store down the road now. Blockbuster is also hella overpriced but they sell their older wrestling videos every now and again so i drop by and pick some up.
Guest Report post Posted May 12, 2002 All my local Blockbuster Videos suck. There's no old wrestling videos for sale or rent. I rent my old wrestling tapes from Photographics.
Guest Report post Posted May 13, 2002 And they just recently forced most of their stores to destroy, not give away, not sell, DESTROY some of their older videos in order to make room for new dvds. Not to mention that tricky "due at noon" return policy which I'm sure has made them oodles of money in late fees. Dear lord but I hate that chain. Why do they destroy the old videos now? They used to sell them for cheap. I dont see the point in trashing them. Also Jingus, how is the due at noon policy tricky?
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Also Jingus, how is the due at noon policy tricky? I can't talk for Jingus, but I think it is easier to forget what day the tapes are due back because of the new rule. If I have in my head that the tapes are due back on Monday, there is a good chance that I might forgot the "at noon" part and bring them back later in the day. Or maybe I decided to bring them back Monday at noon, but I woke up at 10:00, had breakfast, took a shower, got caught up in something and lost track of the time. With the midnight rule, it was kind of hard to screw up bringing back the tapes because you would have the whole fucking day to do it.

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 14, 2002 ...geez, ANOTHER reason I rent from Hollywood. How long has Blockbuster had the noon rule? I don't remember it being like that all the years back when I used to rent from Blockbuster.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 14, 2002 They've had it for about a year or two. A couple of guys who I know that work at a Blockbuster said that their late fee income went WAY up once that rule was put in place.
