Guest EMAXSAUN Report post Posted May 8, 2002 Hello, I just built my 1st computer. I earned up enough money to build a pretty decent machine. Overall I spent $1,200 on it. Specs: Athlon XP 1800+ 512 MB DDR RAM 40 GB HD 52x CD ROM 16x DVD 32x12x40x CD-RW NVIDIA Geforce2 Dolby Digital Sound Zip Drive Optical Mouse Lan 56k modem HP Deskjet 620 Color Printer Windows XP Professional Edition KDS Xtreme Trinitron 17" Monitor With a .24 dot pitch I also bought two GamePad Pro's so I can use them as Playstion Controllers to play my PS game on Bleem (a PS emulator) And I hooked my stereo speakers into my sound card because I didn't want to spend extra to buy new speakers Pics: The Computer: Inside the Computer: Me Playing WWF Smackdown: Tell me what u think! Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 9, 2002 why do you have a zip drive? is the soundcard Soundblaster?
Guest EMAXSAUN Report post Posted May 9, 2002 i have a zip drive because i took the old one from my old computer and i still exchange data between the old computer and my new one. actually, the sound and the video card are built into my motherboard. because of my buget, i couldn't go all out and buy crazy parts, so I bought a MSI K7N420PRO MotherBoard. This motherboard is special because it a 1st generation NFORCE motherboard. A NFORCE is NVIDIA's motherboard which has intergrated sound and video, but actual good quality sound and video. The built in video is A Geforce2 MX 32 MB DDR, and the sound is NVIDIA's Dolby Digital Soundcard. I am happy with it for now, but once I get more money I will upgrade my video card to geforce4 and I upgrade my sound to Sound Blaster Audigy. This is the motherboard:
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 9, 2002 Geforce4, thats one expensive video board, so your a serious gamer, eh? but is the sound and video really that important, $500 for 2 componets is a alot of money....for that price you probably could get a DVD A03 Pioneer burner. Guest EMAXSAUN Report post Posted May 9, 2002 yes it is true, I do play a lot of games, but for now, the geforce2 mx is fine, but I am going to use my computer to do 3D Graphics and Animation (im taking a 3d Studio Max Course every weekend), and the geforce2 can't really cut it when I try to render my animations. The games I play mostly are Soldier of Fortune, my PS games, and Half Life: Counter-Strike.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted May 9, 2002 How well does bleem run? Is it just like having a Playstation on your desk? A GeForce2 is pretty good for SoF and Counterstrike, which are both running older gaming engines, but once the really new stuff starts to come out (like Doom III), you'll probably want to upgrade. Guest EMAXSAUN Report post Posted May 9, 2002 Bleem runs some PS games well, but it actually improves the graphics quite a bit if u set it up correctly, but that was when i was using windows 98, bleem doesnt work with winxp, so i downloaded EPSXE: http://www.epsxe.com/ it is free and is better than bleem, but it takes a long time to set it up right but its worth it
Guest swan Report post Posted May 9, 2002 Sweet, the first computer I got I actually built. 1998. Read a book or two and off I went. Its sweet cause I just slowly upgrade as I go. You don't piss away money like you do when you have to buy a new name brand system every 3 years.
Guest EMAXSAUN Report post Posted May 9, 2002 true. thats what my family had always been doing, and we had many computers over the years, and I wanted one for myself that I could upgrade enough for it to last me through college (im in 11th Grade), so I worked, earned enough money to build one, and finally got it to work. Building the machine wasn't too difficult, but installing everything took about a week for it to run perfectly :and: if anyone is interested in building a computer or finding cheap parts go to http://www.pricewatch.com, you'll love it
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 10, 2002 Congrats. I don't think I could ever build my own computer. I wouldn't have the paitence or ability to connect everything and tweak it until it runs perfectly.
