Where's the new ROH belt?

Hey guys.

 

I was surprised to see pictures of Aries with the old ROH title. I thought with the new champion they would start using the cooler looking belt. I can understand Joe maybe wanting to keep wearing the belt he'd lugged around for so long but I figured "new era, new belt."

 

Was the new design just a gift to Joe for elevating the title? I can't remember seeing any pics with him actually wearing it. (I fuzzily remember someone mentioning an angle where Homicide stole it but nothing coming from it.)

In storyline Homicide still has the new belt. And it was never made clear whether Thatcher giving it to Joe was just as a gift or because they wanted him to carry around a new one because Homicide stole it right after the match. I personally like the old one anyway.

It was meant to be a new belt to signify that the ROH title was now the "ROH World Heavyweight Championship", and the final Joe/Homicide was meant to be "winner gets both belts", but the fans thought the new belt was ugly as hell so Homicide just kept it.

 

He brought it out at ROH Gold to taunt CM Punk, who he also disrespected by stealing it.

 

I personally hope that Aries faces Homicide and gets the belt, I think it would look much better on him. If not, just have him keep the original.
