Kyle Turley threatens to kill Mike Martz

Recommended Posts

Guest Vitamin X

I've just heard it on ESPNNEWS that Kyle Turley had a sitdown with Mike Martz, and apparently it didn't go so well. Couldn't find a web article, but it's been getting reported on ESPNNEWS all day, so I'll post a link when I see it.

I would have put this in the Hot Seat thread, because obviously it shows Martz is losing control of the team, but I don't think Turley has a right to go that extreme. That's the last guy I think I'd want threatening to kill me.

Discuss.

I'd say Mike Martz could just run away but he doesn't believe in the run.

SOLD

If I was on his offensive line and I had to deal with his retarded play calling I'd try and kill him too. Good for Kyle Turley, no jury would convict him.

When Turley played for New Orleans, they had a practice in my hometown.

My dad being on the police force here had to particiapte in the security escort. Well I don't remember if it was Loomis or if Mueller was still GM, but he rode with my dad.

Anyway, my dad was like "yeah, my boy is a big Turley fan, you think I'd be able to get an autograph for him?"

The GM was like "yeah Kyle is REALLY good about signing stuff for the fans." (I think my dad presented it as though I was a really small child)

Anyway, he just happened to have a football in his car with him and after the practice, Turley approached my dad and said "I hear you wanted an autograph for your son?"

My dad said "that was one big s.o.b.! I would hate to run into him in a dark alley, or on a football field!"

So anyway, Turley asked for my name, and gave me a personalized autograph.

It pretty much devestated me when he left. Especially by going to the Rams that were such big rivals.

Anyway, I think people know by now how to take Turley. He won't kill Martz (intentionally). At most he'll rip the head set off and throw it. (Hey if the head is still attatched, so be it).

What really ticked me off is how people turned on him.

My college was the team practice facility for like 2 or 3 seaons, and he referred to the town as a toilet, and made some not so kind remarks about the dorms...

well, he was right. I don't see what people were in such a tizzy over.

You haven't been watching the Rams play this year, have you?

This doesn't surprise me much... Turley's a great player but he's known to be a serious hothead.

He was run out of New Orleans because he had some serious problems with management. (Haslett, I think).

Between him and Willie Roaf leaving town, there are some huge gaps in the Saints' O-Line now.

Coach threatened?  Turley, Martz deny claim

ESPN.com news services

NFL security has questioned Rams coach Mike Martz and offensive tackle Kyle Turley over an incident where Turley allegedly threatened to kill Martz, ESPN's Chris Mortensen has learned.

Martz and Turley allegedly engaged in a shouting match which resulted in Martz filing a report with NFL Security regarding the death threat, Mortensen is reporting.

The argument began when Turley heard that Martz questioned the tackle's dedication to rehabbing his injured back and decided to confront the coach, Mortensen reports. Turley is on injured reserve after re-injuring his surgically repaired back early in training camp.

For his part, Turley denies having threatened Martz. And on Tuesday evening, Martz issued a written statement denying the report of a confrontation with Turley. "This story is absurd. It is offensive to Kyle Turley and Mike Martz. There is no truth to this story."

Despite missing the entire season with back woes, Turley has said he wants to return for the 2005 season. The seven-year veteran, who has ruled out a second surgery to correct his back problem, has no plans for now of retiring.

"Wanting to play has never been an issue," Turley said earlier this month. "I've given everything to this sport and dedicated myself to this, I think, as much, or in some cases more so, than most people. That's been the goal from Day One, to get back. To get back on the field."

From the time his back began to flare up again early in training camp this summer, Turley insisted he would retire rather than face another surgery. He said doctors have apprised him that, with proper posture, increased core strength and additional flexibility, his back in time will compensate for the disc problem.

How long that process will take, however, is not certain. Turley's goal is to be in camp but that aim might not be a realistic one.

"But if it takes [until] the middle of next season, then so be it," he said. "Or if it takes even the year after that, I'm going to make it back. I'm 29 years old. There's time. I'm going to make it back and play in the league."

Did Martz refer to himself in the third-person, or is that just phrased weird?

He got run out of New Orleans for being a Ditka player like everyone else with any talent on that team.

I really really hope he did.

I don't know.. is it just me, or was being a Ditka player not necessarily a good thing during his time there, considering the team never made the playoffs, let alone get a single win there until Haslett came along?

Perhaps I'm mistaken, though.

It was the Ditka players that got Hasslett his only playoff appearance.
