Binary recovery

I was just wondering if anyone here knows about how to do a binary recovery. I'm doing this for my friend who recently had a harddrive that got physically damaged and can't access any OS on his system besides the BIOS, and he wants to learn how to recover his hard drive.

 

Any help on this would be appreciated.
