Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Fantastic news for Packer fans everywhere!! Packers: Sherman might lose general manager duties by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com Tuesday, January 11, 2005 News Packers' head coach and general manager Mike Sherman is in jeopardy of giving up one of his job titles, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Packers' President Bob Harlan has hinted all season that he would prefer to split the two roles, leaving Sherman with only one job. When asked if he had decided what direction to take the front office, Harlan said Monday, "I have a thought." Sherman has a year remaining on his current contract. Views Harlan will likely act quickly on this matter, as discussions with Sherman regarding a contract extension are expected to begin later this month. It seems unlikely that Sherman would give up the head coaching duties in favor of staying on as the general manager should he be given the option. YES!!!!! On a sidenote, man did Favre's "Super Bowl or Bust" prediction go bust in a big way, or what? I didn't even remember that until I read an article on the playoff loss today. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 12, 2005 Craig Nall is the answer! What the question is, I have no clue. I actually scoured the Green Bay Press-Gazette website to see if what Frank Nabbit was saying was true, and there's no mention there whatsoever of it, so that had me slightly relieved. For some reason, I can't fathom Brett retiring when he clearly can still play, but a part of me also wants Nall to get in there before it's too late as well. If he doesn't retire now, it certainly feels like next season is it for good. How much longer is left on that enormous contract Favre a few years ago? Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 12, 2005 That may not have been there, but this was- Fans aren’t satisfied with the Green Bay Packers simply making the playoffs anymore, based on the more than 200 e-mailers from 35 states and three countries who inundated the Green Bay Press-Gazette with cries for change since the team’s wild-card loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Packers General Manager and Coach Mike Sherman has guided the Packers to five straight winning seasons and four consecutive playoff berths, but the team has won only two post-season games during that span and has been eliminated in the first round at home in two of the past three years. As a result, there was no shortage of advice for Packers President Bob Harlan, with nearly half of the fans calling for a change in Sherman’s status. About one-fourth of the respondents believe Sherman should give up his general manager duties and concentrate solely on coaching. Another 10 percent called for Sherman’s outright firing. “Bring in a Ron Wolf-type of GM,” wrote Ed Cruz of Orlando, Fla. “Let’s not get back to the days when players hated playing for Green Bay.” Packers defensive coordinator Bob Slowik also was a lightning rod for fans, with more than one-third of the respondents calling for his dismissal. The fans’ suggestions ran the gamut, including: hiring a full-time off-season trainer for much-criticized defensive tackle Cletidus Hunt; demoting Sherman to offensive coordinator; dumping the West Coast offense; moving linebacker Nick Barnett to safety; bringing back Mike Holmgren and Ron Wolf; acquiring Vikings defensive lineman Chris Hovan; and firing offensive coordinator Tom Rossley. Amid the outcry for change, Jahan Wilcox of De Pere had a much calmer approach. “The Packers had a wonderful season and should not make any changes during the offseason,” Wilcox said. Oh man, we've snapped.
