An interesting question

I was going through some old wrestling tapes of mine the other day and saw something interesting. It was the old "slammy" awards, one from the 80s. There was a skit with Vince singing and Hulk Hogan playing guitar- the one that Benoit and Jericho showed last year-, and through the night you had wrestlers doing all sorts of funny and silly things. Pretty good stuff I thought.

 

Now I bet you anything that you would NEVER see something like that these days. I think it's because wrestling takes itself too seriously now.

 

I would like to hear other people thoughts on this! Does wrestling, and do wrestling fans, take wrestling too seriously?

the reason is because...at least I hope...they have gotten away from the cartoony theme of the 80s.

 

The attitude era marked a complete change in direction for the company.

 

Since that era died...the WWE has lacked a direction.

 

But I dont think a return to cartoony wrestling is the answer.

 

But Hogan is champ and Taker is challenger...so what do I know.

I disagree.

 

The Wwf right now is a parody of a Wrestling promotion.  JR and the King are people playing the role of announcers rather than being one.

 

Couldn't be any less serious than it is now.

 

If it was serious then they would put a focus on competition and the 'reality' of wrestling.

Also, if the WWF (never gonna say the other name) knew how to produce videos that would appeal to the more rabid fans who caught on with the nWo, stuff like NIN, maybe would've worked.  But Creed?  C'mon.  The should've known better than to have shown videos for a Christian Rock band.

They need a new star IMO, and bad.  I'm thinking they need a sadistic heel who can do it all.  Basically, they need a new HHH.  Push him, and have the promotion based around the guy.  Hey, it worked in 2000.
