Guest Report post Posted May 9, 2002 MORE DETAILS ON THE HENNIG-LESNAR ALTERCATION by Dave Scherer Updated: 5/9/2002 12:02:55 PM I have more details on the altercation between Curt Hennig and Brock Lesnar, which led to Hennig's dismissal from WWE. Throughout the plane ride back from the UK, Hennig was reportedly ribbing Lesnar a lot and egged him on about who was the better shooter (Does Hennig have a death wish?) until they finally got into it on the plane. Lesnar took down Hennig a few times in the aisleway, and HHH, Paul Heyman and Fit Finlay (who is an agent) told him him to chill out, and Brock did. Then, it started up again when Hennig reportedly wouldn't let it die and HHH got in the middle of it. From what I heard, Hulk Hogan's account of them almost opening the emergency door was very much overstated. HHH did get somewhat pushed against a door while breaking it up, but it wasn't close to opening a door. Hennig, who is an "old school" wrestler and into pulling ribs, was also doing goofy stuff on the plane like putting shaving cream in Big Show's hair. In the past, Hennig had gotten heat with management with how he has dealt with Lesnar. The two had ridden together on the road (since they are both Minnesotans) and management was said to have not been happy with the bad habits Kurt was teaching Lesnar. They stopped riding together for a while, but began again after the split. This had helped put more heat on Curt and, combined with the events of the weekend, led to his dismissal. As far as I can tell, Lesnar has no heat with management over this. It is looked at as Hennig's fault entirely.
Guest dpac Report post Posted May 9, 2002 can you blame henning,,wwf proably told henning they would give him a solid uppercard run if he left xwf as the champion,,,than he gets there and is jobbing all over the place,,he may of went overboard,,,but he was most likely a disgruntled employee,,atleast he did not go postal

I'm sure Vince promised him he'd have a steady paycheck, be on tv and be able to retire financially secure. XWF or WWA or whoever might have been able to make him their top guy, but he would still have had to have a weekend job to pay the bills.
Guest dpac Report post Posted May 9, 2002 your right henning has been in the business long enough,,,probaly to a point where he has decent savings,,,i dont think money was that big of an issue,,henning has always had an ego and i am sure he wanted to go out in a respectable way,,not jobbing to a hardy boy
Guest notJames Report post Posted May 9, 2002 can you blame henning... Yes. Curt Hennig is a grown man. And grown men should know that their actions will have consequences. All Vince gave him was a job and a chance. Blowing the latter resulted in losing the former. If he's any kind of professional, he'll take this like a man and move on. Guest notJames Report post Posted May 9, 2002 Perhaps. Or maybe Vince retroactively considered the downsides outweighed the upsides in hiring Hennig and used it as an excuse to let go of some dead weight. Hindsight's a bitch, huh?
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 9, 2002 Sounds like Hennig fucked up, probably while loaded, and started a fight at the dumbest possible moment. He should have no one to blame but himself.
Guest Report post Posted May 10, 2002 I wished he was not fired but he did it himself. -----jp OUT
Guest JAxlMorrison Report post Posted May 10, 2002 Other then a huge mark out moment at the Rumble when Hennig was getting doubleteamed and still managed to spit out and smack his gum, and watching him be one of the final 3, he has provided nothing but poor wrestling and mostly incoherant interviews, probably due to drinking. I for one am not sad to see him go. Maybe the NWA or XWF would be a better environment for him, one where his potential would be realized.
