Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted May 9, 2002 NES - Battletoads, yeah I posted about this earlier. It still has this enigma to me because I sucked so bad at it. SNES - Spiderman/X-men Damn that game is hard and very frustrating. I kept getting a bit farther but never beat it. Did anyone and was it a good ending or anything? Megan Man X - Yeah I beat it with the codes but without them, yeah right!
Guest Report post Posted May 10, 2002 Super Gouls and Ghosts for the snes without codes. I did with 'em and beat the last guy but I'd never been able to without them.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted May 10, 2002 One year for X-Mas, I got Sonic & Knuckles (with the 'Lock-On' technology). Anyway, I was playing it with Sonic 2 locked on later that day, and I had gotten to the last level. I was just at the final boss, when my mom yelled that it was time for X-Mas dinner. I didn't think to pause the game, so I turned it off. I never had the inclination to play that far in the game again.
Guest Report post Posted May 10, 2002 The first Legend of Zelda game. I beat the other Zelda games several times over, with the highest number of wins going to the SNES version (I plowed through that one six times). In spite of that, I never got around to finishing the original.
Guest Sakura Report post Posted May 10, 2002 You have infinite continues in Megaman X. 3 Count Bout for Neo Geo is just impossible.
Guest Report post Posted May 10, 2002 Are we suppose to just include games that we think no one can beat? All games are beatable; some are just harder than others.

Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 10, 2002 NES - Battletoads, yeah I posted about this earlier. It still has this enigma to me because I sucked so bad at it. SNES - Spiderman/X-men Damn that game is hard and very frustrating. I kept getting a bit farther but never beat it. Did anyone and was it a good ending or anything? Battletoads was so hard that I never beat it even with a level select code AND a game genie. Pretty much all of the "vehicle" stages seem absolutely impossible to get through. (And this is coming from a guy who goes out and beats the first Castlevania just because he has nothing better to do that day!) Spiderman/X-Men was just a poorly designed game, plain and simple. I gave up after the thousandth time I got killed as Wolverine in the stage where you fight Juggernaut. I knocked down EVERY single weight and anvil, and he still just shoved me into the pit at the end, WTF?! Final Fantasy 1: I'm sure it could be beaten, you'd just need to spend an insane amount of time leveling up first, and I never had the patience. Ghosts & Goblins: anyone who tells you they beat this without cheating is a God-damned liar. (Back in the day, game companies apparently thought that "entertaining" actually meant "hard enough to make small children cry".)
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted May 10, 2002 Outside of Battletoads and the G&G series (obvious and well-deserved mentions), what about the Atari 2600 "port" of Pac-Man, where you had to play until the game literally froze?
Guest whatitistoburn Report post Posted May 11, 2002 I hate to admit it, but I never could beat Chrono Trigger. ;;hangs head in shame;;

Guest EQ Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Megaman X... what a great game... I did manage to beat it w/o codes... in one sitting, but that was in my prime...

(Back in the day, game companies apparently thought that "entertaining" actually meant "hard enough to make small children cry".) I agree 100% on Spiderman/X-men... neither myself nor any of my friends could ever beat even ONE of the "real stages". Damn that game is hard and confusing... I'm also going to humbly submit Nightmare on Elm Street for NES. Even with a lot of "quick-saves" on the emulator, I couldn't fully beat it. Freddy's one tough cookie... plus he plays cheap! Stupid cheap computer! I think the reason a lot of those sidescrolling games were so hard/confusing is that there's really nothing else they could've done at the time to improve the genre. If you look at sidescrolling games, a lot of them are just very hard or confusing because that's the only thing to set them apart. But nothing bothers me more than a side-scroller where you don't know what the hell you're supposed to be doing... look at Alf for Genesis! Or Friday the 13th! I've had them on emulators in the past... but had no idea how they were supposed to work.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Alf I've never even heard of. Friday the 13th, basically you have to kill Jason about three times in a row in those "3D" fights inside the cabins. No need to say how damned difficult that is.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Yea, Alf was a bit obscure I suppose... basically you're Alf, and you wander around, and there's this guy in a trench-coat who wanders around trying to grab you. If he grabs you, you die. If you get hit by a car, you die. I have no idea what to do in the game... I just kept going to the same areas over and over again, not knowing how to enter doors or if the doors could be entered or anything. Then we actually had to do classwork. Guest Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Well one game I can think of is Clock Tower... it was really bad. Blaster Master was tough... but I was able to beat it. The one I just can't beat was A Boy and His Blob for the NES. It was just a bitch.
Guest Report post Posted May 11, 2002 There was a game for the NES called Solomon's Key that use to send me into fits as a child. It was a puzzle-type game where you make these blocks appear or disappear to do whatever. Years of therapy have since helped me get over the pain and suffering that game caused, to the point where I barely remember it. All I can recall is the murderous rage it instilled in me. Guest ArkhamGlobe Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Friday the 13th for NES sends me into fits of rage everytime I play it. When I was about eight I rented this game for Sega Master System called Global Defense or something like that. I still remember nearly starting to cry because I couldn't even complete the first level. I'll have to download it one of these days and see if it is as difficult as I remember it. Guest Report post Posted May 12, 2002 you guys ever play the x-men game for genesis. It took me like a year to figure out you acually had to reset the game after mojo's board in order to go farther. Thats the only game i've ever seen do that. --Rob
Guest treble charged Report post Posted May 12, 2002 Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves for NES was impossible to beat, for me. At one point, I got to this boss, and shot all my arrows (from all my weapons [it's been awhile since I've played that game, but I seem to remember there being different types of bows you could use]), and they just seemed to bounce off of him. Since there was no save feature in that game, and took upwards of an hour to get to that point, I eventually just gave up, and I don't even know where that game is anymore. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 12, 2002 Robin Hood can be one of the easiest games in history to beat, and all you need is a controller with rapid fire like an Advantage or a Max. Near the very beginning, there is a part in a cave where you're in a narrow corridor, and bad guys will keep coming towards you. Well just park yourself in the narrowest part, face towards the enemies, get your sword ready, and tape down the rapid fire button. The bad guys can't get past your sword, die, give you experience, and they never stop coming. Leave it alone for a couple of hours, and you'll be at a ridiculously high level. Guest treble charged Report post Posted May 12, 2002 Well, I only had a normal controller, and I could get by most of the bad guys, up until this boss. I used the double bow and arrow, and used up all my arrows until I just died.

Guest Report post Posted May 13, 2002 When I was five or so, I recall being in an arcade becoming so frustrated with this one game that I began to cry. Literally. I don't remember the game, but I remember tears running down my face. I was such a pussy as a kid.
Guest Report post Posted May 13, 2002 I just thought of one that I had.... Back to the Future for the NES. I could NEVER beat that game.... after many tears and headaches.
Guest Clyde Rockwell Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the NES, which was a pretty damn sweet game but I could never beat the judge, he would always beat the hell out of me, I think I saw somebody beat it once but I never could beat that game. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted May 13, 2002 I've yelled at games, but I don't think I could ever shed tears over one.
Guest Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Never Beat Super Mario Brother But I did Beat Super Mario 3. But most the time I never beat games. Beating games takes to much time. I just use cheats to get all weapons etc an just blasting people heads off. Just to let out my anger from all the frustration in the world. It's fun blasting some dudes head off in Sof after you ridicule him and his family before you shoot the unarm man in the head. It's sad thing but Hey It's Just Practice Man Just Practice. You know practice for blowing real heads off that what the media told me. Bang Bang You know that one game for Atari named Surround?? I don't think it was possible to beat that. It just kept going faster an faster.

I was always freakin awestruck by that game and I LOVED it even though I never got anywhere. Thanks for bringing that one back. The 2 X-Men games fro Genesis were just awesome. They were both very innovative like when you had to reset in the 1st, and the 2nd how it starts off. The one for SNES was really good too.
