Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2005 I have SBC Yahoo DSL, which has a usual speed of 1.5 Mbps. Last night, it inexplicably slowed down to 250kbps and has stayed there. I haven't downloaded anything at all. What the fuck is going on? I wasted so much time getting DSL to work in the first place, and now this fucking shit. God dammit. This is just as bad as AOL dial-up was.
Modern Man's Hustle 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 OK - Go to your start menu, click run, then type in CMD and hit enter. A DOS prompt will come up, type in ipconfig /renew and hit enter. That should renew your IP address. If not, open up your control panel, go into Network Connections, right click on your connection, and click 'repair'. If that doesn't work, shoot me a PM. Guest Razor Roman Report post Posted January 28, 2005 I have been using DSL for like 18 months with no slowdowns, but I have read somewhere that DSL's modems can become "conditioned" to the power in your house and it makes them get slow. Suppossedly if you unplug it over night and then plug it back in your speed will come back. Don't know how/why it would happen, and don't know if the fix works, but it might be worth a try. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted January 28, 2005 That's called power cycling the modem, and yes it does work.
