Help out a guy ignorant to puro and lucha

Recommended Posts

Guest spliffstar

So here's the deal.  I know nothing about any wrestling outside of the north american stuff I have seen (mostly WWF, with some NWA/WCW, and a smattering of ECW).

I would love to check out some puro and some lucha, but I don't want to spend a lot of money.  Basically looking for something that would give me a good primer on some of the legends (past and present).  Don't think I need you to make sure it has gaijin involved to break me in easy, but if it has some Benoit or Eddy-goodness, I wouldn't mind.  Anything on DVD would be preferred, but not necessary...

**Just in case you missed it...don't want to spend a lot of dinero.***

or if anyone would like to just mail me some of their own tapes in an effort to convert a silly WWF-mark, I'm more than willing to provide my address:)

Once again, let me emphasize this needs to be a cheap introduction.  I'm in college, and I'm sure my girl expects to get something for Hallmark's Day on Thursday.

Can't really say which tapes i'd recomend but if you don't wanna spend alot of money i'd say order from Jeff Lynch at [email protected]

you can get 6 hours in ep mode for only $20, 8 for $25 and 9 for $30

For Lucha, I'd start w/ a tape of the following 3 PPVs on an 8 hour tape in EP from http://www.wrestleholicsvideos.com (go to order options and then combo tape instead of "buy it" on the show's individual tape):

AAA/IWC When Worlds Collide (see my review)

OCESA Ruleta De La Muerte II '99 (Great Torneo cibernetico opener, Battle royal determining partners for losers advance tag tournament where the last losing team fight each other in a mask match, awesome show)

EMLL 3/30/01 PPV "Juicio Final" (2 great trios matches, excellent overall show)

If I were to recommend just one tape as an intro to foreign wrestling, it would be the '96 J Crown joint. Everything on there is tight, with the Ultimo/Ohtani match ruling all. $10 at Highspots, and a solid start.
