Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted May 10, 2002 That had to be one of the oddest and worst movies I ever saw. It just kind of popped up in my head how unnecessary and horrible thatmovie was. and what the hell was up with the ending? Just what the hell? Anyone else? Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 10, 2002 That's about how I felt about it, and there have been some arguments over that movie in this thread before. I just pretty much hated the whole thing, but some others really liked it.

Guest Report post Posted May 10, 2002 I kind of liked it, it was pretty funny in a sick kind of way. Like the business cars, haha --Rob
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted May 11, 2002 Most of the people that I know didn't like it because they didn't "get" that it was a satire on the lifestyles of '80's yuppies. My favorite scene is when Bateman just breaks down and kills everyone in sight.....but I just mark the hell out when he goes around the revolving door a few times just to get the janitor. Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 11, 2002 A.P was such a good movie. SO many many people thought it was a horror movie. No where near it. This was an intelligent and hirlarious take on the 80's.
Guest Report post Posted May 11, 2002 American Psycho was one of the top 3 best movies of 2000. Christian Bale was excellent, and the satirical storyline was brilliant. Most people who hate it don't seem to understand it. Unfortunately, that's a popular way of thinking for most North American film audiences: "I didn't understand it, so it sucks.". Guest Report post Posted May 11, 2002 most people feel that way about david lynch movies, but most of them are the shit. I agree that the majority of Lynch's work is crap. I don't think they are crap because they are confusing, I just think they are poorly made films (Lost Highway). I do like some of his films, such as Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart, and I liked Twin Peaks as well. Hell, after seeing it 3 times, I STILL don't understand Mullholland Drive, and found it confusing as hell, but I still like the movie and bought it on DVD. Guest Report post Posted May 11, 2002 everything wasnt in his head really it was about how everyone he associated with was so self centered they had no idea what he was really doing
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Nooo, everything was in his head. And I understood it, and i thought it was a very bad movie. It was a book that should never have been adapted to film anyway.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 13, 2002 I love this movie, but it pales in comparison to the book. Christian Bale's performance and the visual aspect make this movie only less than zero eclipsed the ellis book so far..im holding out that rules of attraction can surprise me.. Guest Report post Posted May 13, 2002 Seriously, everything was not in his head. Ellis, and the director of the movie said that some people would interpret it that way, but it definitely wasn't. It was acknowledged that some things were in his head, but he really killed quite a few people. If it was all in his head, that would negate the point of the whole story, and reduce it to "Don't do drugs."
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted May 13, 2002 The ending would make more sense if the true nature of the movie did revolve around the fact that everyone was so self centered and just had no idea what was going on, but dude why didn't he get caught? Guest Report post Posted May 13, 2002 he didnt get caught because everyone was so disconnected and self centered. Bateman killed Paul Owen. Later he broke down and confessed it to his lawyer. The lawyer didnt believe it because he saw Paul Owen in London a few days before, but the point was that the person he saw wasnt Owen, but he, like everyone else, was so uninvolved that he didnt even realize it. This was emphasized by the fact that Batemans lawyer didnt even recognize him at the beginning of that conversation. I read an interview with Bret Easton Ellis where he explained what he was trying to say with the story. I cant quote him exactly, but he said he was trying to make a point about the 80s yuppie lifestyle, by demonstrating that the ultimate 80s guy could be a homicidal maniac and get away with it, because everyone is so self centered that they would not realize it at all. This was the meaning of the recurring themes of no one recognizing anybody, and how Bateman just comes out and says he likes to kill people at random, yet nobody is even listening to him. This was best demonstrated in the movie, I think, in the scene where Bateman tried to strangle Louis in the bathroom, yet Louis is so enamored with himself that he thinks Bateman is trying to make out with him. Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted May 14, 2002 The film is ok, I think they did the best that they could with a pretty unfilmable book. Two more Bret Ellis books are going to be films, so that should be interesting. Especially Glamorama, which is great.
