Southern California Indies

Recommended Posts

I moved to Southern California several months ago and I need to find some good indy shows to attend. Indy wrestling has been a big part of my life as I had been attending New Midwest Wrestling shows every month for the last few years when I was in Illinois and I knew just about everyone in the promotion.

I don't know of any promotions down here besides UPW. Could someone give me a list or links to some sites? I live in Moreno Valley, just outside of Riverside. If at all possible, I'd like to find a promotion that runs shows closer to me rather than having to travel to Anaheim or LA (since I don't have a car at the moment).

Also, a list of wrestling schools would be helpful since I may resume training once I add some muscle and save up enough cash.

I think Pro Wrestilng Gurrilla is in South Cali somewhere. I haven't seen one of their shows but I know they have top indy talent who work the shows.

I went to SoCal Uncensored earlier. Everything on their message board was very old, from 2003-2004. Maybe it's one of those boards where I can't view newer posts unless I register.

EDIT: Strange... It's up to date now. I don't know what the problem was earlier. Thanks, though.

EWF in the IE where you live runs in Covina and Riverside a lot. Other then that you wont find much good wrestling(and EWF isn't that good either). Here's some promotions to check out if you don't mind the drive:

AWS: They run every month in City Of Industry. Their venue is right off the 60 freeway and the shows are really good. It's a mix of Rev Pro guys, lucha legends, hardcore wrestling and big name indy talent. The next show has Justin Credible and Francine. The venue is called Frank and Sons Cards And Collectables and it's like a giant weekly comic convention and the AWS booth has wrestling tapes and other merch.

PWG: They run in Hollywood 5 minutes away from the LA Zoo and a few minutes from the 5 freeway and 101. This month(next week) they're running at the place AWS runs and they're going to have Alex Shelley, Roderick Strong, El Generico, Kevin Steen, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, and Super Dragon and a bunch of great younger guys.(www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com)

UPW: In Anaheim, mostly WWE style.

WPW: In Anaheim and features younger Lucha Libre guys.

War: In Santa Ana every month and bring in other big names also like Jack Evans, Austin Aries, and a few guys listed above in my PWG part.(www.prowrestlingwar.com)

Those are the ones I can think of off my head right now. There are plenty of shows going on but in your case it's going to be real hard to get to shows. I really suggest you get a car ASAP lol. As for schools, here are a few I can think of:

AWS: They have training sessions every week. Look for AWS posts on SCU and look for Bart's e-mail address since he runs it.

EWF: I believe it's in San Bernandino and it's run by Jesse Hernandez. I have no info on that school other then it's mostly a school that's produced Sports Entertainment type wrestlers.

Inoki Dojo: In Santa Monica, so it might be hard for you to get too. Go to www.njpw.com for more info.

WPW: They have a school in Anaheim and are mostly lucha based and has produced some great wrestlers. Super Dragon got his start there.

UPW: In El Segundo I believe, but I heard it's turned into an MMA school with wrestling on the side.

If you have any more questions post them and I can help you out.

Thank you very much. I have no more questions at the moment, but I will probably end up asking more after checking into everything you listed.

It's just nice to know that there will be some shows in Riverside that I can attend. I guess I got spoiled by having a good wrestling fed running monthly shows back in Illinois.

I really do need to get a new car.
