Guest Loss Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 I was recently turned on to a song called "Moonchild" by a group called M83 that is absolutely outstanding. A very dark, synthesizer-heavy instrumental sound is the best way I know to describe it. The CD just came out on 01/25 and I'm going to be picking it up very soon. I wanted to ask if anyone has heard anything else by them (or is it him? I'm clueless) and if so, what did you think of it? Also, for anyone else familiar with this style, can you make some more recommendations within that style? Thanks!
The Man in Blak Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 I dug Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, so I'd recommend that one. To use an incredibly nerdy reference, it reminded me of the background music for Phantasy Star IV, which isn't a bad thing.
Henry Spencer Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 I have that album, and I enjoyed it, but there were moments where it reminded me of a synth-heavy My Bloody Valentine ripoff. So, yeah, check out Loveless by My Bloody Valentine, mostly.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 ^ Loveless is certainly one of the best albums ever and if you like washes of sound, well, sink in and die happy. Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghots is also wonderful in its own right and one of my favorite recent albums. I haven't listened to the new album, though I've got a burned copy of it sitting on top of my TV at the moment. M83 was two guys, but for this album is just one guy. Those French synthesizer duos just have a rough time not letting their egos clash, I guess.
5_moves_of_doom Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 They're alright. Some songs are fantastic, but some are sort of "meh." Interested in seeing if the sound changed at all with this new album though.
