Foley's finest fights...

Recommended Posts

Guest

Being a Taker Mark, naturally im also a fan of Mick Foley, a guy who ,at one stage, made a living outta making Big Mark looking DAMN good in the ring ( not that he can't do that himself ). But there is more to Mick Foley than Taker Brawls which made his name in the WWF( e ), wether it be hardcore classics with Vader, No Holds Barred Brawls with Austin or Tag turmoil with the likes of Steve Austin & Kane, Foley has truly left his mark on pro wrestling.

But the question remains, which match of his illustrious career truly outlines Foley's talent?

IMO, you can't go wrong with Royal Rumble 2000 - Streetfight with Triple H, Over The Edge 1998 - WWF title match against Steve Austin and Mind Games - Shawn Michaels. But im sure there are a lot more fans out there with more knowledge on Foley's pre-WWF days, and know of matches which could very well surpass his WWF tenure.

Name your favourite Foley fight! ALLITERATIONS RULE!

I really liked the 2000 rumble myself.  I'd say that and mind games are his finest moments.

Well hmmmm Foley vs HHH PPV matches were good

Mankind vs Vader in WCW is just as good, Holloween Havoc 95? Texas Deathmatch was the best match of the 2

Foley vs Funk in ECW, when the crowd threw chair into the ring was a Holy Sh!t moment

Foley vs Funk in the King of the Deathmatch was hardcore

Foley vs Kanemura in FMW, in barbwire death matches

I think i've seen photos of that...

Didn't they literally bury the ring in steel chairs? If so, then i've seen that shot, fuckin' unbelieveable...

Personally, can't go past Foley's balls with the Hell in a Cell match in 98, but talent wise, he shines in his brawls against Steve Austin during both Unforgiven & Over The Edge 1998.

You 'da man Mick!

If Foley ever had a sucky match against Vader, Sting, Eddie Gilbert, Terry Funk, Undertaker, Triple H, Austin, or Rock, I haven't seen it.  (Damn, he was good!)

I'd say Mick's WCW run blows away most of his WWF stuff with the exception of Mind Games with HBK and MAYBE the Streetfight at RR 2000.

My favorite Foley matches had to be:

Spring Stampede 94 (with Maxx Payne) VS THE NASTY BOYS

Slamboree 94 (with Kevin Sullivan) VS THE NASTY BOYS

Mindgames VS SHAWN MICHEALS

Raw is War (March 98) VS TERRY FUNK

Over the Edge 98 VS STEVE AUSTIN

King of the Ring 98 VS THE UNDERTAKER

Royal Rumble 99 VS THE ROCK

Royal Rumble 2000 VS HHH

*I have to admit, I never really seen much of his ECW stuff, so that I can't account for*

My favorite Foley sigles match would have to be RR 2000, because had two of my fav. wrestlers killing each other for my pleasure. Foley vs. Rock, when he first won the world title, was great too, for sheer markoutity. The 10 man tag of Rock, Mick, Rikishi, and Too Cool vs. Xpac, Triple H Dean Malenko, Benoit and I thing Eddy G was great too.

I liked his boiler room brawl with Taker and Summer Slam 96

The Boiler Brawl was one hot angle, espically when Paul turned on the Taker. I remember watching that for the first time and became SO ENRAGED that the FAT MORON PAUL F'N BEARER TURNED ON HIS FOLLOWER AFTER SO MANY LONG HARD YEARS OF DEDICATION! MY GOD PAUL WHY! WHY PAUL WHY!!!!!!!!!

Cactus v. Vader is a hot match from Havoc 93. Cactus of course bumps like a madman and both he and Vader bleed to my hearts content.

On the Foley DVD there's a really good Austin-Mankind match from 11.18.96 RAW

Guys...just think about this one...Foley is the only person to pull, not one, but TWO good matches...out of the NASTY BOYS!

He's a miracle worker.

But my favorite is DEFINITELY the RR Street Fight. The match he had on Saturday Night with Vader when their feud was just beginning? Well, let's just say that was almost too hardcore for WCW at the time. Don't forget his, well, FIRST fairwell match.

Your right, anyone to get *ANYTHING* watchable out of the Nasty Boys has powers beyond anything man has ever possessed!

The finals of the Deadly Game Tournament, at Surivor Series 98, was great.  Mankind VS Rock, probably the finest match those two had that involved more wrestling than shocking violence.  Plus, and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that match mark the first time someone kicked out of the Rock Bottom and / or People's Elbow?

Anyway, the finish to the match probably pissed a lot of people off, but god DAMN it was a great swerve and it set up a 3 month feud between Foley and Rock.

That sounds pretty accurate to me, im sure that was the first time that anyone has been able to kick-out of the Rock Bottom. I'm glad it was Mick who received that distinction.

The card itself ( deadly games ) was pretty darn horrific. Although i'll admit that Mankind & Rock saved it from total disaster...

Taker helped too!

In 95, he had good matches against Terry Funk in ECW.  The best one was the Funk & Dreamer vs. Cactus & Raven tag match.

All the same, you can always count on Jim BAH GAWD Ross to overlook wrestler's accomplishments when it comes to Austin.  At WM15, 5 months or so after S.Series, Austin kicked out of the rock bottom and as Ross put it "no one has ever done that before!"

if you have a dvd player, do yourself a favor and get the Best of Cactus Jack in ECW.  Just a beautiful collection of his skits and matches from ECW days.

Cause he's hardcore, he's hardcore, he's hardcore!

I have soo many favorite mankind matches its almost incredible.

All his fights with the UT were unbelievable. That fued is still probably my favorite of any fued just because every time these two fought, they absolutely tried to outdo and kill each other. I still mark out at KOTR 98 and still in awe at the Boiler Room Brawl.

HHH and him had some classics too. Royal Rumble 2000 has been a favorite of mine for the longest time cause of that street fight.

Foley/Rock was just absolute CLASSIC stuff. The booking was soo there and the matches were right on the money. Royal Rumble 99, another one of my all time favorites because of the I Quit Match.

I wish Foley/HBK had gotten off to a longer fued cause Mind Games was great. It was one of those matches that made the ppv and I will always remember it.

Foley/Austin was more classic stuff that I absolutely loved.

I am one of foley's biggest fans even if he is retired. He has soo much good stuff its hard to put it all in one post. FOLEY FOREVER!

my favorite foley matches are the tag matches against the nasties.

but, what about the wcw saturday night matches against vader that left him actually paralyzed.

i think foley as a wrestler peaked in ecw, his promos there are some of the best in wrestling history(my favorite were the hardcore dad, mikey whipwreck eating disorder and hardcore christmas with his daughter).

Go watch Foley against Undertaker at KOTR '96... (18 slow minutes before Foley wins with the mandible claw), that blew.

Speaking of his match with HBK at Mind Games, is it on the Hard Knocks and Cheap Pops DVD? I can't find Mind Games anywhere.  If it is on the DVD, is it full or clipped? Thanks.

It is. It's the first match in the Matches section and is the entire match.

Hey, I liked it.  It was certainly one hell of a step up from everyone else the Taker had been feuding with over the past three years, and the heel newcomer got the upset victory as well.
