ABC today cancelled The Job and I have a sinking feeling that Whose Line is next.

Yet, shit like The Bachelor gets the big ABC treatment.  I'm telling you, the only reason I'll watch ABC anymore is for football, and this season, I'll probably have the TV on mute and listent to the radio broadcast.

I never watched it while it was on ABC, but I did catch a few eps while they aired on Comedy Central, and it was one of the better series I had seen. Hopefully some station will pick up the reruns and any unaired episodes, like Comedy Central did for Sports Night.

Hmm. I never watched ABC once this season.

-The fading "Drew Carey Show" will shift to Mondays at 8 p.m. Two long-running comedies, "Spin City " and "Dharma and Greg" were canceled, along with the drama "Philly."

Bah, Drew Carey show isnt funny any more, Spin City -MJF = crap and I hated Dharma and Greg.

-"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," only two years ago the biggest sensation in television, was left off the schedule.

Who wants to see celebs play all the time.  Shoulda had more drunk rednecks from Alabama trying to win the million dollars..

ABC's Wonderful New Shows

_"8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," starring Ritter and Katey Sagal in the comedy focusing on Ritter's relationship with his daughters.

Hmm John Ritter and Al's Wife Peg from Married with Children...who cares. FLOP

_"Dinotopia," a fantasy that extends the concept of dinosaurs and humans living together.

Could be good but I dont think it will last past 4 episodes.

Possible FLOP, no more than 2 seasons.

_"Less Than Perfect," a workplace comedy set at a TV network. Andy Dick, who once starred in a workplace comedy set at a radio station ("NewsRadio"), is in the cast.

Comedy about TV network = FLOP

_"Life with Bonnie," a family comedy starring Bonnie Hunt as a local TV host.

Whatever. FLOP

_"Meds," a one-hour drama featuring renegade doctors trying to undercut the frugal HMO that runs their San Francisco hospital. ABC compares its mix of comedy and drama to "M-A-S-H."

Oh, lets see if we can copy a genre thats been around for the last 8 or so years, but take us this long to get around to it.  Something like Chicago Hope (It will probably go 3-4 Seasons at least)

"That Was Then.."A thirtysomething man time-travels back to high school in the 1980s

Whats with trying to dig up the 80's so much? FLOP

_"Push, Nevada," a drama the network compares to "Twin Peaks." Developed by Affleck, it offers clues to a puzzle that viewers can solve to win money.

Ben Alfeck? Wasn't this originally supposed to be a reality show? Unfortunately, this show is not a winner, please don't try again..FLOP.

They cancelled "Politically Incorrect," yet they renewed "America's Funniest Home Videos."  What sort of message does that send?

In the time slot formerly occupied by PI will be "The Jimmy Kimmel" show, or some show hosted by him.  What show is he not involved in?  Jimmy Kimmel is the new Regis.

Ahh, but Kinetic, you forget that Bill Mayer said something that was (gasp!) politically incorrect! He's not supposed to do that, no matter what the title of his show is!

Plus, Jimmy Kimmel is overrated, I really don't think he's that funny or entertaining (hell, he's carried on "The Man Show" by Adam Corolla).  So yes, he is the new Regis ;)

Agreed on all points.  ABC knew what they were getting in to when they picked up "Politically Incorrect" and, much to his credit, Maher has never backed down on any of the stances he's made on the show.  I'm not entirely sure if ABC's canning of the show is in direct relation to the comment(s) he made, but I'm eagerly anticipating tonight's PI to see if the topic is addressed.

And I will forever despise Jimmy Kimmel for his work on Fox's NFL pre-game show.  As if it wasn't already stupid and cartoony enough, they felt the need to add him to the mix.

LOL, The Practice has gone from a show I watch because it's enjoyable, to a show that I only watch once in a while, just to laugh at how stupid it's become. Gee, another psycho ex-client stalking Lindsay. This is only the THIRD SEASON IN A ROW that they've done this exact same storyline.

As for PI, I'll be sorry to see it go. Even though I haven't really watched it in a while, and though Bill Maher himself drives me insane at times (even when I'm agreeing with him, he's annoying), it could still be fairly thought-provoking (when they didn't have idiotic guests) and it was an entertaining way of challenging your opinions. I actually wished it had expanded to an hour, because the most irritating part about it (aside from Maher's smugness) was the fact that just as the arguments were getting good & interesting, it was off to another commercial break. Argh! Fuck ABC!

How were PI's ratings anyway? I was under the impression that they were pretty miserable.

Well, actually I saw PI last night and Bill said it wasnt about ratings they were good, and seemed like he was implying that ABC couldnt handle the fact that he spoke his mind and joked about his "firing" a little, But that's why I think the show is getting cancelled because of him speaking his mind and didnt back down to the network which is bullshit thats what the show is about, I do hope a network (FOX) will pick the show up and make it an hour show.

So you believe the host when he says the ratings were good. The ratings for the show sucked. I'm sure Maher's comments played a rule in ABC's decision but not enough people watched.

When PI has guests that actually know what they're talking about, it's an alright show, but I don't give a flying fuck what Bruce Villanche thinks about Enron.

The problem with PI is it's not politically incorrect that often. Maher is basically a liberal, and the panel usually consist of 3 Democrats and one Republican who gets attacked to entire show.

The ratings for PI weren't great, but they never have been.  So the only conclusion one can draw is that the show's being cancelled due to Maher's comment last year--which, in addition to being completely true, wasn't even all that offensive.  I agree that the show can be pretty formulaic and there are times when it seems like no one on the panel has any clue what they're talking about, but still.  It should be on the air.

I have not watched PI for a while, but I think he's getting fired for speaking his mind, why worry about ratings when it's on at around midnight?

The funniest thing I've heard him say was that women play sports poorly and no one wants to watch the WNBA.

What did Maher say anyway?

I didn't actually see the episode myself, but this is how I interpreted the comment:  he disagreed with people referring to the 9/11 terrorists as "cowards," because flying a plane into a building takes a lot more courage than, say, launching a missle from the middle of the ocean.  That doesn't strike me as condoning anything and anyone who watches the show can attest to the fact that Maher is a great supporter of the Armed Forces.  But people took it completely wrong and some ABC affiliates yanked the show.

I wouldn't exactly call Maher a "liberal", though he does bash conservatives more often than not. He's had some exchanges with ACLU members that have been just as, um, animated, as those with Ann Coulter.

Anyway, Bill Maher has said things that have been much worse than the "cowards" comment. It's all because some idiotic radio host named Dan Patrick caught wind of it, and exhorted his followers to write letters to ABC complaining about it. I mean, it wasn't even Maher who brought it up, it was *Dinesh D'Souza*, who's not exactly what I'd call a left-wing peacenik. I saved the transcript from that night, and here's the relevant portion:

Dinesh: Bill, there's another piece of political correctness I want to mention.

And, although I think Bush has been doing a great job, one of the themes we hear constantly is that the people who did this are cowards.

Bill: Not true.

Dinesh: Not true.

Look at what they did.

First of all, you have a whole bunch of guys who are willing to give their life.

None of 'em backed out.

All of them slammed themselves into pieces of concrete.

Bill: Exactly.

Dinesh: These are warriors.

And we have to realize that the principles of our way of life are in conflict with people in the world.

And so --

I mean, I'm all for understanding the sociological causes of this, but we should not blame the victim.

Americans shouldn't blame themselves because other people want to bomb them.

Bill: But also, we should --

we have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away.

That's cowardly.

Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly.

You're right.

So, anyone think Comedy Central will pick this show up again?
