Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted March 18, 2005 Since people here are always asking where they can get hold of AKI's legendary Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 N64 game (a Japanese import, remember, so check compatibility) - basically No Mercy with no slowdown, all your favourite puro grapplers and an awesome shootfighting system - I thought I'd let you all know that there's a Hawaiian dude on eBay selling loads of them. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2005 It may be an import, but if you have a gamebit screwdriver kit, if you buy a dirt-cheap used N64 game (Madden 64, Clayfighter 63 1/3, etc) and remove the back cover, change it with the Japanese cart's back cover--you can play it perfectly. Technically, you can modify the N64 or saw off the edges of the Japanese cartridges, but my way's easier and you don't have to worry about getting dust in your carts. Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted March 18, 2005 Hi Andrew. I've got a Jap N64 so carts just fit into mine, but am I right in thinking there are two plastic bars that stop Jap carts fitting into a US machine? Are they easy to snap off (a la the SNES) or do the require proper use of a tool to remove them?
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2005 Hi Andrew. I've got a Jap N64 so carts just fit into mine, but am I right in thinking there are two plastic bars that stop Jap carts fitting into a US machine? Are they easy to snap off (a la the SNES) or do the require proper use of a tool to remove them? They're not easy to snap off, but you can saw them off with a hacksaw or a good knife. You're going to have to be cutting through a quarter inch of hard plastic to make it "even" with the notches that would be on a US cart, plus you have to saw a little the other way to remove it. However, it's likely to leave holes in the sides of the cartridge. Plus, since there's now one LOOONG notch on the Japanese cart if you do it, it likely will be a loose fit and doesn't hold as snugly as it should. For that reason, I went with the gamebit/cartridge backing switch. Well, that and I don't like seeing my games look like crap.
